Well it certainly looks like we have hit Montana at the right time. Its not stopped snowing since we crossed the border into the States.
It snowed all last night and we woke this morning (or were woken at 4am by road clearing teams outside) to about 6" of fresh snow on top of yesterdays dump. It was still snowing and looking good. Talking to a few locals last night they said it would be busy today, so we were up early, got Craig ready and took him down to the Kindercare centre in the base lodge. We arrived by 8.30 and the place was still very quiet.....so different from Europe on a pow morning.
Once Craig was settled we set off to explore the front side of the resort. Chair 1,the big mountain express is the main lift up to the summit. Got in the lift line with a local who said it was the busiest day he had seen this season. There was around a 5 min wait for the lift and we said to him he was spoiled....told him what it was like for the Grand Montets at Argentiere after a fresh dump !
The fast quad soon had us at the summit and we just strapped in and went for it, the groomed runs had a nice cover of fresh pow and dropping into the trees it was knee deep...heaven.
Had a couple of laps and then went over to chair 2 and explored the nice cruisy blues in that area, still hitting powder on the pistes.
Had a few spins through the "fishbowl" park, which was virtually deserted, lunch at the Bierstube and another couple of hours exploring the front side before getting Craig from kindercare.
He was desperate to get out on his skis so we had an hour playing in the snow before calling it a day.
Hope tommorow is just as good......and it should be as its still snowing.
