The official first day of winter was a good one at the Star. 12 cm of fresh on a 115 cm base. The wind didn’t show up as expected and the temperatures moderated to –15 so it was a pretty good day. Almost all of the resort is now open but the cold, new snow made the traverse over to the Back Side pretty slow. In the slightly lower elevations of Silver Woods the conditions were perfect. Deep, dry powder in the glades and, surprisingly, very few people about.

I took the Fish out for a shakedown run with some new bindings and it was great fun. Baker’s Acres and Silver Meadows are in fine condition particularly for December. More snow is forecast this week and, if the temperatures continue to moderate as predicted, the rest of 2008 will see great conditions.
