December 25, 2008: Fresh turns on Christmas morning have become a bit of a tradition at our place, everybody else seems to like to sleep in or open their presents early in the morning so it is a great time to be on the hill. Santa gave us an extra special present this year to go with an empty resort, 33 cm of fresh!
I’m not sure where they are measuring the snowfall accumulation at Silver Star these days but the coverage from the recent dump seemed to be variable. The back side certainly got 33 cm but it didn’t seem to be that much on the front side or at Silver Woods. No matter, we had a glorious morning as there was some real shredding to be had. The Rush, Bon Diablo and Larch were particularly good – you could basically blast straight down in the deep snow and face shots were plentiful.

The conditions are now great at Silver Star. The settled base is 135 cm so all the early season obstacles are pretty well covered. The temperature was a near perfect –12 this morning and will probably be even a few degrees warmer later in the week.

All is right with the world in our little neck of the woods. Merry Christmas to all!
