Sweet day at Silver Star!

After a very slow start to winter and a late opening (Dec 9 vs. the usual Nov 21 or so) the weather gods have made it up to us! A warm wet front mixed with some cold interior air to produce perfect champagne powder. 50 cm has fallen in 24 hours and the settled base is now a healthy 105 cm. My son and I ran into Jibmonkey on the slopes and he had a big grin on his face and regaled us with stories of chest high powder drifts earlier today.
Putnam Creek (“the Back Side”) opened today and locals agree that it is the best opening day in years for the most challenging runs at the resort. All that fresh snow combined with an aggressive summer brushing campaign meant that the powder hounds didn’t have to bush whack our way down our favourite runs early in the season.

After the storm front passes, temperatures will drop ahead of a very large arctic high pressure system. This will help settle the snow even more.

A great start to the season!
