| Revelstoke, B.C. December 9, 2008. Rather than visit Silver Star on its opening day, we made a decision to travel 1.5 hours north to Revelstoke. The winter has not been kind so far to resorts in B.C. but Revelstoke, in the second week of December, has the most snow. |
|
Conditions were good. 70 cm of snow has fallen in 3 days, and it snowed all day on the day we were there. Temperatures at -5 to –10, made for great quality snow. The journey from Vernon was a bit of a challenge, the constant changes in elevation as the road climbs towards the Rogers Pass made for variable conditions and there were quite a few cars off the road.
Not a lot of the mountain was open, the Ripper (serving the North Bowl) and the extension to the gondola which will give Revelstoke the greatest vertical drop of any resort in North America will open on December 13.
Great day. The resort, despite its financial woes, has obviously done some work over the summer brushing and clearing and a number of runs on the front side have really benefited. Iron Glaiden, in particular, is a fabulous place – holds the snow well, well spaced trees and great terrain.
Revy now needs more snow so it can open up some more of the terrain. We’ll return when it does. |
