A welcome top-up for Mt Hutt over the last couple of days - been a long time coming.
They've got very honest about the conditions this season at Mt Hutt - maybe even too honest! In the past they were reporting "30cm windblown powder" which would probably mean "a 30cm drift was found next to a pylon". This morning it was "machine groomed with periods of low visibility". What we got however was great vis, bits of pow, excellent conditions on and off piste :D We love the new honesty policy!

First day of the season for me (I've got picky in my old age so have waited a month for this) and was well worth it. Opened up a lot more of the mountain (Virgin Mile, Towers and other animals) so plenty to play with. Speaking to the mountain manager, everything else will be opened in time for the weekend (NZ school hols start).

Forecast for next few days is looking either great (30cm) or poo (rain), depending on what report you read/believe. NZ weather is so fickle the only forecast to believe is the one you see looking out your window.

Yeh that's right. Bit of a strange one as is an Easterly (all the weather comes from the West usually). According to, 14cm Thurs and 45cm Friday! I know where I'll be if that happens :)

Plenty more forecast Sloth, they say a big low pressure is forming and will swing into NZ this week/into the weekend. Good stuff.
