With sunshine and cold temps the powder has stayed in great condition here in chamonix |
|
The conditions here in Chamonix over the past week have been very good. After over 90cm’s late last week the pistes have been in great condition all week, I’ve been riding at Le Tour, Brevent, Flegere, Grands Montets and over in Courmayeur. Off piste has been as good as it gets, even with most of the obvious spots being tracked out there has been great fresh lines to ride, just on Friday with a short hike from the lifts we found some good snow on north facing slopes which have kept the powder cold and fresh.
The snow depths in the resort area’s ranges from around 110cm at mid station altitude (1900m) to 280cm at top lift altitude (3275m). The avalanche risk has remained fairly high all week at around level 4 early in the week and now sitting at level 3 so still plenty of care to be taken if heading out into backcountry area’s.
The last snowfall was on the 25th January but as the temps have stayed cool the snow also has stayed in good shape, the temps over the next few days are set to increase slightly and there is some snow forecast for mid week so should freshen things up.
A little video below of the off piste conditions from as late as Friday the 30th January.
