people shouldn't slag soldeu for being too easy for more experienced riders.
cos its not if you actually look. theres plenty of untouched powder through the trees all the way down to the lifts
with steady drops on the way down. i have to say i only rode there for
3 days because on the third night i was in a pub and had a few 2 many. the next thing i remember i was at the bottom of the rivine outside trying to find a place to climb out in the pitch black.
any how, i managed to get out after a few hours and stumbled in to a hotel who then called me an ambulance cos i got cut up on my hands quite badly and also got fairly bad frost bite on my fingers
i was in hospital for the next 2 days and no one spoke any pissing english.
but other then that it was pretty damn cool. i didn't get chance to sample all the mountain but i was told that the off piste trails were rippin.if anyones interested in coming next jan 2004, give me a mail. |

3rd March 2002 = TONS OF SNOW!!:
First time boardin on the white stuff with 3 hours per day lessons in the deal. Had 2 lessons & lotsa playin on dry slope before hol & got into Intermediate Blue class, which was nice!
Great instructor, lotsa runs from blue to black (more blues & reds than anything) and had wonderful time. Went on a small hike to a totally untouched pow valley, 10 ppl with 2 instruc's which was totally mind blowin!!
Thought the resort was nicely cheap to eat & drink out every night, apt's were pretty good & warm, equip was ok (but nowt spesh') & the mountain was brilliant for a beginner-intermediate rider.
Probably limiting for a advanced rider, but they had a decent lookin park & half-pipe, so shouldn't complain! |
|
| Strengths |
Great place to get into boarding, lotsa nutters to hang & grin with/at, superb lessons & instructors + lotsa lifts going all over the place. Plenty of skiers to take out/wind-up ;).
Cheap to live, eat & drink there (4 ltr of J'Daniels @ £20!!). Quite lively nightlife. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Maybe a tad borin for hardcore advanced riders. Limited selection of "Clubs" all of which play party music, rather than something good/useful/interesing! |

Went to Soldeu first week in Feb 2002.
Lucked out with a huge dump of powder on night 2 ... which meant we had tons of slopeside powder and beautiful pistes to play in for the remaining days.
Unfortunately and very frustratingly the whole 'left hand side' of the resort remained closed for pretty much two days because the management/staff didn't get round to digging out the lifts and getting the chairs running ... what's that all about. Excuse me ... lift pass ... cash ... get to work!!!
Some of the lift lines were a pain ... with the usual nonsense of skiers walking across my board *grrr* All in all IMO the hill's just too small for the number of people trying to ski/ride it.
Also, LOTS of beginners littering the pistes in various states of exhaustion/distress. Very funny seeing how many people would take on the run under the gondola when they were nowhere near good enough to ride or ski it.
Soldeu itself was a bit of an armpit.
Probably good for taking your first steps, but I'm always amazed when I see people saying it's not just a beginner's resort. Oh yes it is. |

| Strengths |
Lucked out with lots of fresh fluffy stuff.
Helpful staff in the snow/ski shops.
Good for beginners. |
|
| Weaknesses |
Way too small.
Too many other people.
Dull town.
Ibiza on ice. |

Best thing is the cheap beer (though you'll find it cheaper, eg. Livigno, Italy).
Ok resort for beginner or intermediate (I was intermediate at the time). Went mid-late Jan but snow was icy.
I shalln't return (to Andorra at all probably) - I'd get bored probably. |
|
| Strengths |
Cheap. But then there's cheaper...
One nice natural half pipe trail.
Go DOWN the main road, there's a pub/restaurant by itself, just before the apartment blocks at the hairpin bend. Do the vodka-mars bar shots. Quality! |
|
| Weaknesses |
Crowded slopes.
'village' is tiny. Hardly anything there other than a few pubs.
Quite a few drag lifts.
No powder. |
