| i like to come here because its nearest to me first of all but also cos for a good place to ride its not really that busy at all, unlike other indoor slopes when i wanna ride the park n the only time when i know for sure theres gonna be jumps openare park nights so its gets so busy, but becuase this is permanent you can go anytime. learnt here a few years ago aswell - if you learn on this you ride anything. sick hip style corner jump before the kciker and if you do some stuff on the halfpipe then the hip then the kicker you got a sick line for you already. recently when ive been theyve started getting out tables/small rails to hit which is good cos the only perment one is the rainbow, and you dont really wanna learn rails with taht. |
|
| Strengths |
no lift ques (hardly). halfpipe. lots of things to get a good run . kicker good to learn on cos you dont have to clear anything. hip style jump. quarterpipe good for stalls. not busy. |
|
| Weaknesses |
the middle slope (which i dont use anyway) but i learnt on it, it had some kinda metal underneath or something n kills if you deck it on there. the sprinklers make it slippy in some parts n not in others, which makes it sorta sketchy. |

| Funpark....Funpark...Funpark, its is da shiznay, although the run up to the kicker is a little steep and there's no Gin run to get u balanced, but there is the corner, which with a good run up wil have you getting about 2 metres+ out of it, and if you hop the corner, and continue to the "Big-Air" which is really a kicker, you can get 540's or allsorts of weird flippy misty things. The rails are pretty sparce, there's one Rainbow rail and a blue rail (that no-one but skiers can actually reach), but the rainbow is fun none-the-less. The half-pipe is a monster, and provides the best practise for taking it to a real snow pipe. Theres a 1/4 pipe too, but it's too narrow for anything good really, you see some brave people doing some twisty thing in it, but mostly its for spins to stalls and spins out, which usualy makes you look good, but my faveourite about the Ski village is the corner, a huge run up and a natural feeling jump, which has not got a silly flat unnatural landing, but a slight incline, on an angle, and if jumped right, (if regular), can teach you frontside spins soooo easily, and if you're goofy Backside spins easily, since it nearly forces you to take off on an edge and you just have to rotate your shoulders. |
|
| Strengths |
| Corner, half-pipe, soft landings, good advanced rails, whippy 1/4 pipe, good scene with loadsa people dying to help you get that extra 180, bar, great views of sheffield, (which at night looks like summing from Need For Speed Underground 2) and theres these moguls at the top, which can be used as a kicker, coming from any direction, so they are good practise for mountain borading, (you can always tell if someone on a mountain is from sheffield...they are the good ones)! |
|
| Weaknesses |
| No Gin run on kicker, no beginners rails (i had to learn on the Rainbow...i shall never speak of it again...), the 1/4 is too narrow and if you are an out of towne without a years membership, then you do have o pay more for a session, which is kinda wrong i think, they should have a special deal for people wanting to experience the slope, since this is the only way the love can be spread...! |

I just finished some lessons at SSV and I gotta say that overall it was a good experience. Although the blonde haired boy-girl at the equipment issuing stand was arrogant and manhandled the equipment. loser. The lessons were well structured though the instructors were friendly-they didnt give THAT much individual help or pointers.
I booked another lesson and am looking forward to it. |

| Strengths |
| Pretty well designed lesson course. Friendly enough staff. BAR BAR BAR!!! |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Blonde boy/girl at equipment desk. Crowded slope every now and again. Not alot of individual imput. |

| Well thought I'd post my views about the Ski Village now that I've been passed at level 6 and can roam the slopes alone!! i have read some reviews where people have slated the staff for being unfriendly at Sheff but whenever I've been they've all gone out of their way to help. The lessons are really good, and the progress gradual so you never feel out of your depth when moving up a level! Although I only had the same instructor a couple of times all of them were really helpful and always helping you individually with any problems you were having. My only gripe would be that at £20 for an hours lesson the hire equipment is pretty ragged, i was advised to buy myself some boots in the sale by one of the instructors!! However on the whole my learning experience was really enjoyable and I'll always remeber SSV as the place where I joined this awesome sport! |

Contrary to what others are saying here, I find the staff at ski village to be friendly and often the instructors simply give advice because you're on the same T-bar as them (not because you're paying for a lesson).
One could liken it to any close knit society, these people are with each other a lot of the time and so there will be inside jokes and discussions YOU will not understand etc., but if you were to approach any single one of them, you will find them to be friendly, helpful and downright human.
I liked it so much I applied for a job!
Most of us ride here too and so we do our very best to keep the slopes running as fast and safe as possible and equipment in as good a condition as we can (if you have a problem with the equipment, please, Please PLEASE speak to management - there is only so much we can do :)
That all said, the main slope is very fast when you find the lines and the Park offers much to all levels of rider, with a table top, a rainbow rail, half and quarter pipes and a decent kicker that only the true pros will complain about not getting enough air on (not me then! :)
Don't take my WORD for it, come down and see for yourselves! |
