All of the resort reviews I read before we went, said it wasn't the prettiest resort and they were right, however the mountains look pretty good to me and I don't tend to look back at the village. The fact that it wasn't a quaint Austiran alpine village made no impact on our stay at all.
The access to the milky way is awesome, the amount of piste and off piste runs is huge, the only place we didn't go was France. I think we were lucky as pretty much every night we had a dump of snow leaving us with fresh powder to play in every day, it even covered tracks made the day before, how good is that.
There are loads of tree runs you can explore that are open enough to fly through, there are acres of off piste areas that you play in, or there are enough pisted runs you can stay on, the choice is yours! In other resorts I have been to you have to search for the decent off piste powder runs but here they were everywhere.
The amount of people on the slopes was thinned out because of the size of the area so some runs we did on our own not seeing other skiers or boarders for ages, and the queues were a simple easy affair, the downside to this was that the weekenders brought chaos and huge lift queues early doors but thinned out as the day progressed, there was a marked difference though to the number of people on the mountain.
Other reviews stated that the lifts would close if the winds got high, but there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to which ones and why they weren't working, all that meant was you had to plan your routes on a run by run basis.
One big glaring problem is the piste identifying, there isn't any really, you get to a junction of two runs and it doesn't really mark the piste number (not names as in Farnce) half the time we really weren't sure where on the map we were until we got the bottom and identified the lift. In other resorts I have been to at the top and bottom of gondolas or a major lift or at mountain restaurants there was a large piste map on a board, here there is nothing, leaving you to a rather poor paper map which is confusing at the best of times.
The snow park was a bit of a let down as there were only 2 small jumps available for use and the park itself was kept closed more than it was open, we expected some sort of competition at the weekend but nothing! As with everything else on the mountain it was random what was open and what was closed.
The night life was passable not rocking, but as a group of 15 ages ranging from 15 to 50 we made our own enjoyment and had a good time. you can get pi55ed at home and lie in any day of the week, but you can't board on powder.... |
