This was my first boarding adventure and having booked some 6 excitable months before, I knew I was to expect luxurious surroundings from the photos on their website but I think the most impressive aspect of what R&S offered was the feeling of a home from home :-) I mean, how many chalets owners are so relaxed around their guests they lounge in their longjohns and impact shorts on the sofa? I felt truely priviledged :-p
No, seriously, visiting Mr and Mrs J was like visiting friends (which I think all who visited that week thought of them as) and they were super helpful on locations to board as well as being very patient individuals when one is having a throw the toys out the pram paddy in powder :-)
The chalet, as mentioned, is indeed very lovely - huuuuuuuuge comfy sofa (bagsy the corner spot) gorgeous bathroooms with yummy molton brown (come on, I'm a giiiirl!!!) and fab telly to put your feet up in front of and have a leffe from the honesty bar ;-) HONESTY being the key word here ... ;-) And very comfy beds for my post boarding nap... :-)
Lastly, and in NO means least, the food on offer is superb - even the girl who lives of Ryvita and Special K has been converted to cooking based on Lisas fantastic creations (and I need to practice my cooking skills for the near future - 10 months to go!!! ;-)
This really was the holiday of a lifetime for me - I'd never been away on my own before (shhhhhhh) and it lived up to every expectation I had. (It has also ruined any career plan i had worked for the last 7 years for!) :-D
See you in December Mr and Mrs J :-D

| A beautiful chalet between Morzine and Avoriaz - run by two excellent hosts. A warm, inviting atmosphere where you feel at home. The location is ideal and scenic, the food is amazing and Jon and Lisa have plenty of hint's and tip's for the local area (even if they don't always agree with one another ;). |

We spent a long weekend over New Year at the chalet and had a great time. Food was good and plentiful. Wine was quality and also plentiful.
Jonny and Lisa were great as hosts, gave us some good suggestions of areas to go and board.
The chalet is really welcoming, and is a short walk (8 mins or so) from the Avoriaz lifts.
As we were only there for 3.5 snowboarding days we concentrated on the Avoriaz areas rather than exploring the whole Portes du Soleil - maybe next time :-) |

mec·ca (mEka) n.
1.
a. A place that is regarded as the center of an activity or interest.
b. A goal to which adherents of a religious faith or practice fervently aspire.
2. A place visited by many people: a mecca for tourists.
Ok, I may be a little enthusiastic as I just got back from a week at Chalet Ride & Slide, but with all things considered - the resort, the chalet, it's location, the food, price, quality of hand-soap and of course the chalet owners - I think you'd have trouble beating it. And hey, it's run by a couple of GBers - Jonny & Mrs Jonny!
The resort:
By all accounts, the resort of Morzine/Avoriaz is becoming or is already another snowboarders' mecca. To be fair it hasn't got the riding of other resorts bearing this title, but weighed up with it's price, proximity to Geneva and some never-the-less superb riding and nightlife, it is a truly great place to be.
The Chalet:
Best I've seen - really well laid out and designed plus it has all the things to keep you happy like a massive comfy couch, DVD player, SKY TV and playstation. Lovely spot beneath the Avoriaz cliffs too, and a 5 min walk to the lift to the slopes. It's also got a cool little hill behind the chalet where we built a kicker - bonus! |

| Strengths |
Mr & Mrs Jonny!
The food
Everything else about the chalet
The fact that transfers are included
The fact you can fly to geneva for £50 return
The high local popultation of GBers and the inevitable great vibe in the resort |
|
|
The kicker behind the chalet :)
The snow-zone at the top of the TS Fornet lift in Avoriaz
The board park in Avoriaz
and of course the Cavern! |
