Went in end of March 2010 for my first trip out on some real snow and what a week!
Conditions were very warm leaving the snow crisp in the morning and wet and slushy by the afternoon.
Nice mix and red and blues with easy access with the excellent chair lifts, Lift pass for 6 1/2 days was about £200.00 with the poor exchange rate.
Looking forward to going back for the winter season. |

Hey guys,
Just back from a week in Morzine with HOFNAR and thought I should give you a heads up on the set-up. Had the best time inaginable on the trip.
Dan, the gregarious over grown child, and also the impeccable host for the week is a top man. Along with himself and his mate Craig we were showed the best part of the mountain and shown an even better time.
Food is quality home cooked nosh, snacks whenever you want and beer/wine at the ready at any time. Its described as semi-catered but its as near as makes no difference to catered.
As far as riding is concerned they are top guides..good skiers in themselves (dont hold that against them) and they ride all the time with local saisonaires so you bulid up a good network of mates, both boarders and skiiers. One day there was 11 or us riding in a group..50/50 split. Morzine Avoriaz Les Gets needs no introduction.
Anyway to cut it short. If your on your own......go....If your with mates....go.. You cant but have a blast....
Cheers dudes.. |

hey guys well after 2 months of nearly solid boarding I’m back and boy did I have the best time of my life.. cant wait for next year…
The Resort: Morzine .Portes du Soleil
What a class place, Morzine is right at the heart of a vast ski area.. there are at least 6 parks within reach to go jib and jump. Les Croset being the biggest and the probably the best maintained (the place to go if you’re a pro or a serious nutter), there’s also a cool park in Super Chatel that has quite a few really nice rails..(little c rail, big c rail, see saw rail, rollercoaster rail, up along down along rail and two sweet straight rails) and a well situated half pipe, oh and not to forget the BBQ great for sunny days in the park chillin.. The baby park in Avoriaz is where I spent most of my time learning new tricks, a great place cos it’s the nearest to Morzine so got visited allot after long days cruising around the piste. I didn’t spend all my time in the park though.. the ski area is really big and includes some really good runs.. like the “coup du mon” and “the wall”(six foot high moguls!! Theres also quite allot of really good off piste for those bluebird powder days..? espeshially a run we called the satalite run.. just up from the “cho flurry” lift theres a track and then a 15min hike to a little peak from where there are quite a few sick runs.. one that I did on my last day in knee deep powder.. a 20 min decent through a gorgeous powder field with sparse trees that helped judge my speed and added a little turning interest..!!
The chalet: Ski Morzine, Chalet Nantegue
One of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced.. great people .. good food, for only 7euros a meal..

I was one of the 12 others who joined Sinbad (see previous review)
Morzine is part of the Portes du Soliel, which is massive, bit misleading though, it may be the biggest linked skiable area in the world but some of the places must take you a day to get there.
Morzine itself is really nice, lots of bars and restaurants. The slopes were mainly quiet but look out on Wednesday afternoons when all the local schools turn up.
I have to recommend Les Gets, really quiet therefore the snow stayed nicer for longer. Lots of fresh on the last day Woo Hoo! |
|
| Strengths |
| Pretty, good bars and restaurants, linked to portes du soleil so can go someplace else if its crap. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Lifties were really french and moody (come on look where they are living they have no excuse) |

I stayed in a chalet in Morzine with 12 friends during the first week of Jan 2004. Morzine is part of the Portes Du Soliel ski area, which is huge, and links several towns including Avoriaz, Chatel, and Les Gets.
The town of Morzine is big for a ski resort. This has the advantages that there is a lot of choice of resturants, hire shops, bars etc, so competion keeps the prices down a little. This is why it's possible to find cheap chalets there. Morzine is generally an attractive town, lots of wooden chalets, and always very lively.
Les Portes de Soliel is so huge that I'm sure you could spend seasons exploring it. We covered a fair amount of terrain, visiting some of the Swiss side, as well as the Avoriaz area. My favourite area was Les Gets, predominantly because it was much less busy than Avoriaz, and there was still fresh pow to be found late in the day. Avoriaz did get very busy, and it was a scrum to get in the cable cart at the bottom, but I'm sure after good snow, it's well worth getting up there.
For our stay it hadn't snowed for a few days, so some of the pistes were a bit icey, especially in Avoiriaz, but on the final day it dumped, and we spent it getting fresh lines all day, mainly around Les Gets.
The bar/resturant prices weren't particulary cheap, especially the beer, but that's ski resorts for you. The chalet was good value, and I'd recomend checking out www.francesnow.com if you're looking to rent one for a week, they have loads, in many different ski areas. Only problem is that it's all in french! We were staying a 5 minute walk from the Nyon cable car, or a 3 min walk to the ski bus which took you to Avoriaz.
Overall, I liked Morzine, and the Portes du Soliel area, because there was so much terrain to ride, and the slopes were peppered with rustic little bars and resturants.
Recommended.

| Strengths |
Massive ski area covered by pass
Short transfer to Geneva
Morzine a lively and attractive place to stay lots of nice rustic resturants |
|
| Weaknesses |
Some of the slopes too busy - especially around Avoriaz
Many of the french lifties were moody b*stards
Several of the lifts closed quite early 3:50pm which meant that you had to plan carefully to avoid getting stranded. |
