Having stayed at More Mountain's Chalet Robin in December 06, I decided to revisit Morzine based on a great experience, this time to take part in sNOwPARKING, a week's stay in The Loft with 7 like-minded shredders with some professional freestyle tuition thrown in.

The Loft is run by Sam and Jon, two of the most down to earth, welcoming chalet owners you are ever likely to meet, with a real talent for creating a high quality experience and entertaining their guests with a personal touch - including an excellent knowledge of the local drinking holes! The couple keeping the ship together on a daily basis - Lindsay and Chris - were great fun and clearly from the same mould.

The secret to More Mountain's success is a combination of flawless hospitality, fabulous food, well appointed contemporary-styled chalets (now 3 in total) and Alpine comfort (unlike a lot of other places i have stayed in, their website does represent reality). As a boarder joining a group of largely unknown people, just as important was Sam and Jon's ability to make sure that the group staying in the chalet was cohesive and able to have a great time together - the usual gamble was reduced to zero risk.

I should mention that I was the guy who broke my wrist on the first day's boarding (referred to in Love Inc's review below), so my comments are based on a boarding holiday without much boarding! If a chalet holiday can be this good without any piste-time, it's not hard to see why I will be definitely be going back again.

What can I say about More Mountain that hasnt already been said??? Not only is the chalet an amazing place for anyone to spend a week or too but Sam and Jon really are the best. A guy in our party broke his wrist on the first day and Sam took it upon her self to take him to the hospital and make sure he was OK. There level of service is off the scale. On top of all this the food was great we were catered for six nights out of the seven as wednesday is staff night off. We had everything from Beef Bourginon to Chinese. We went for the Snowparking week and had freestysle tuition which was all planned and organised briliantlly.

Ive stayed at more mountain a few times and everytime I return it gets better

Well done guys!!!

Well its been a couple of weeks now since i have got back from a week in Morzine staying at 'The Loft' with MoreMountain. All the hype, excitement and adrenalin has died down to normal levels of sanity, so when i look back and think about my experiance with Jon & Sam, that same hype, excitement and adrenalin come flooding back.
From the very first telephone conversation i had with Jon back in August you could immediatly sense the passion and excitement as he spoke about his past snowboarding experiences and the plans for the MoreMountain Freestyle week with the inclusion of the brand new luxury 'Loft' Chalet.
On arrival we were greeted by out chalet host Charlie to a champagne reception and two enourmous freshly baked cakes and then we were shown around what would be our 'home' for the week, the rooms were all en suite with towels and toiletries provided. Then Jon & Sam came along to introduce themselves.....now this is the first time that i had any real contact with Sam and oh my god, she is just brilliant, i can not describe the passion, frindliness and excitment that comes from this woman, within 5 minutes of meeting them i knew we were in great hands and that i was going to be looked after by people who shared my enthusiasum for snowboarding.

Each day we were chauffeured by Jon in the minibus to and from the lifts which was very usefull indeed and then we would be met by Lauren from the Avoriaz Ski school who we be our coach/instructor/mentor for each of the mornings lessons. Lauren's coaching technique was excellent and he wouldnt be afraid to throw a few suprises into the mornings riding which would improve your confidence no end aswell as his knowlage of the Portes du Soleil ski area we could hit all those hidden secret spots on the mountain that no one knows about!!!! Lauren is a very well known figure around the parks & pipe in avoriaz and his authority was shown when he would close off certain kickers in the park so only we could use them or ride the pipe before it was open in the mornings again all helping in improving our confidence without the added pressure of other boarders/skiers. In the afternoon we could do what we wanted, if a couple of people wanted to go back and hit the parks, ride the mountain, hit the stash, do a bit of jibbing, build a backcountry kicker or concentrate on technique riding then that was ok, this was our time to do whatever we wanted to do, there was never any pressure to do anything that you didnt want to do. On every day of riding Jon would accompany us along with his trusty camcorder to film our activities and on one of the afternoons of free riding i opted for some coaching with jon on technique, by the end of the first run he had my stance and technique dialled, i was so chuffed and cannot thank him enough for this.

But it wasnt just on the slopes that i needed the help, my friend who came with me broke his arm and was in hospital for 6 days, Jon & Sam took me to the hospital to visit him (which was an hour away) and were always happy to phone up the hospital along with Charlie and speak to the french doctors so i could keep up to date with his progress and gave me great peace of mind.

In the evenings we were treated to a fantastic 4 course meal, the food every night was awsome with as much wine and beer as we wanted. Charlie and Simon really did spoil us concocting dish's that were just out of this world, a real credit to MoreMountain. Then we could either sit down infront of one of the large Plasma tv's and watch the days riding that Jon had filmed in the comfort of the large leather sofas and wood burning fire or get your glad rags on and go into town to party the night away, again there was no pressure to do either, it was your call. Also if you felt that your board needed a wax or tune then there was a arrangement for a collection & delivery service for this to be done and i was amazed at how quick the turnaround was, no more that 2 hours!!!!!! alternatively Jon would show us how to do this ourselves in the garage where there was a tuning area set aside.

On this trip there was also a few little extra's thrown in for good measure like the backcountry powder day which also involved avalanche awareness training to which we were kitted out with transceivers at no extra cost and free board and gear testing courtesey of 'The Park' snow shop along with a 10% discount and goodie bags which included t shirts, stickers and ashtrays from both 'The Park' and 'Subvert' snow shops.

But the highlight of my trip was when pro rider Col Mytton came along with us for a afternoons riding and we headed off into a bowl to build our own kicker, he is such a nice down to earth guy who has time for anyone and was happy to givie me tips all afternoon, a top top lad.
I now have the confidence to hit things that before now i would never of had the balls to do!

So all in all an awsome week where the emphasis was on improving your riding in a relaxed, no pressured enviroment, staying in luxury accomodation, meeting new friends and most of all, having fun......... well i can safely say that all of the above box's have been ticked.

Awesome week all round!!
Arrived a day late (due to a prior engagement of a stag do in malaga) just in time for an amazing dinner with the rest of the lads cooked up by the top hosts Si and Charlie. The standard of the food was extremely high all week and complimented by great wine (not the usual ccr*p you get for free) and great banter round the dinner table.
The chalet itself was great, nice contemporary feel about compared the more often than not twee ginger bread house style. All the mod cons you need and big flat screen for watching those inspirational snowboard dvds!!
The camp side of the week was great too! But very tiring both menatlly as well as physically! 3 hours tution every morning with the effervescent laurent got everbody testing their limits from the very first run. (as i had missed the warm up day i ended up doing my first run of the season switch!) The tution took us into the pipe, park and off piste including a special run thru the vallet de la manche for freshies which was my personal highlight of the week.
All of the guys seemed to take positives out of it and the standard of everybodies riding rose as the week went on!
As well as laurent, Jon accompanied us everyday, giving out helpful hints and advice as well as si and charlie coming along when they could, even sam managed to join up with us on her day off too! These guys couldn't do enough to make sure i stay was a great one! And it was!
All in all as i said an awesome week!!
Strengths

What can I say about this trip. It couldn't have been better. From the moment I arrived I was made feel welcome with a glass of Champagne and an introduction to my fellow guests. Si and Charlie who look after the Loft, cook the most amazing food avery night and are always up for a night out or a days boarding.
Jon and Sam are great too. Sam makes you feel so exited about averything from going out boarding in the freash powder to having a few drinks at the end of the day. Jon is a superb guide around the mountain, he knows all the best spots for freash powder and amazing runs, although watch out for his guidence when your about to jump of a cliff, everything is a 4ft drop as far as he is conserned, he may have some dept perception issues.
The Loft itself is made feel like a second home. The huge LCD TV is there to watch movies and snowboarding DVD's whenever you want, and there is always plently of beer and wine to go around while your sitting back and relaxing.
Our snowboarding instructor for the week was Lauron. He is a great instructor, always pushing you to jump higher and go faster and he left me going home with a few tricks up my sleave and confidense to try new tricks weather in the park or on/off piste.
Highlights for the week were the backcountry day, doing tricks in the stash and my first experience in powder.
All in all this was an amazing trip and I look forward to returning next year.
