Review Detail
We started off worrying about the 4hr transfer from Kittila airport (although I believe they now fly to an airport a little closer) however with only a 3hr flight we weren't rushing to the hotel for a sleep so we nabbed the tour operators spare seat. Top deck of the bs right at the front. Let me tell you they don't scrimp on the transport, seemed the coach rolled out of the showroom to collect us. Was snowing heavily when we arrived (end of FEB 2006) although this didnt seem to deter the driver travelling at 70mph along the snowpacked highways. The roof flood-lights lit up the trees and snow which added to the excitement.
We stayed at Hotel Holiday Club, probably the most popular resort and we were half-board. Food wasn't the greatest but with the temperatures and skiing reindeer and salmon diet wasnt too bad.. rpetty good in fact. The hotel had a cracking all you can eat buffet style breakfast and dinner, with the option to eat at the restaurant attached with a 15 euro discount per person (highly recomend the steak!!).
As for the activities its a cracking place for beginners or those that haven't skied or boarded before with a brilliant ski/snowboard school.
Also participated in some husky sledding, a lappish dinner with a reindeer farmer, snowmobiling to see the Northern Lights and loads of other stuff...
Were there for a week and it was honestly the best holiday yet, not just for the snowsports but for the other activities to break the holiday up and provide some experiences we really can look back on.
Strengths
SNOW.
Bloody loads of the stuff, drifts as high as the street signs and roads being sloughed three-four times a day, the slopes are walking distance from the village which is quite quaint itself, + free ski bus!!
£100 lift ticket for a week!!
Great that theres other activities as well as boarding/skiing.
Appeared in the local paper for being in the snowschool (as it was an up and coming resort) they even posted us a copy for a souvenir... Heiki the teacher was fantastic too...
Cheap equipment rental should it be a first snowsports experience.
Seeing the Northern Lights both in and out of the village, NO ambient light which gives a great view.
Hot Spots
Bar across the road from Holiday Club, Jagermeister bottles lining the walls and ceiling.
Restaurant on top of and the bottom of the mountain, chilli fires with tabasco sauce.
Weaknesses
Not many runs. not an issue for beginners - intermediates but for mountain addicted rock jumpy freaks I can imagine it geting boring once youve shot down them once or twice.
I managed to do the lot in a week and felt it was the right length of time for a beginner.

If you dont like reindeer, steak or salmon you're F*&$ked.
