Coronet peak, as all kiwi resorts, is much smaller than those you would find in europe or america, but in saying that the terrain is pretty varied. With a little exploration you'll find runs to suit anyone. from simple non-steep pistes to long, steep powder runs in the back bowls - expect a moderate hike back if you attempt these though.
Coronet is known for its rolling terrain which makes it more of a fun-park than anything. Anyone with a bit of airtime under their belt will find literally hundreds of places to head skyward, as well as plenty of secluded areas with good terrain to build a mammoth kicker.
Coronet IS small but the terrain is only limited by a riders ability and imagination.
On the negative side of things, Coronet is the lowest of the fields in the area so can suffer during poor seasons.
With a bit of white stuff and a coupla mates though, you can have a wicked time there. |

| Strengths |
Varied terrain suitable for all
fast lift compared to neighbouring fields
Air-time inducing rollers everywhere
Extremely cheap if you buy an early-bird season pass |
|
| Weaknesses |
low altitude
untrustworthy snow reports
bit expensive if you buy day passes |

Whilst travelling in New Zealand, I spent some time in Queenstown, and a day snowboarding at Coronet peak. This was my first experience on a kiwi resort.
I was lucky in that there had just been a dump of snow, and the local kiwis were saying that it was one of the best days of the season.
It was ok, but definatley small compared to european resorts. I have been told that Coronet peak is not the best resort in NZ, and that there are bigger linked areas, although overall I think kiwi resorts are small.
I'm sure there was some off piste, if you knew where you were going, but I was just riding the piste that day.
It wasn't particualy busy, but the runs were quite short over all.
Worth a visit, but not that much terrain. Won't keep you occupied for long. |

Cheapish - you can get a lift pass + bus ticket for about £15 I think.
Worth a few days exploration if you're in Queenstown. |
|
| Weaknesses |
Small ski area, limited size
Can't stay at the resort - nearest town is Queenstown, approx 1 hour bus drive. |
