Got these bindings for this season, the CTC ones in white with nice little lime green touches.
Used to ride flows and ridden standard 2 strap set-ups before and was looking for a half way house. The K2 Cinch really does this well. The ratchets aren't the best, plastic but more than sufficient and allow that fine tuning and ease of release if you get mega stuck in pow.
The mechanism that lifts the ankle strap up also means no kicking around to get your foot properly in place, like with flows on occasion. K2 Cinch is dead simple.
As regards performance I'd say they're of a softer medium flex, very good for piste, park, pipe and whatever and have easily customisable high backs - though no 'twist' if that's something you're into? - Personally I don't see a benefit at all.
Toe strap can take both positions, over toes or cupped round the front. Have found fits my boots either way but girlfriends boots don't fit with the strap going round the front, not that I can tell any difference in performance.

| Strengths |
Easiest binding to use - automatic rising ankle strap Quickest bindings (apart from step ins) to use. - Foot in, highback up, snap in place. Good quality, equal any other binding of a similar price range/level Adjustable toe straps
They look good too! |

| Weaknesses |
| Plastic ratchets - though not really needed after a few runs and you've found your set-up |

Actually have two pairs, one I keep at our place in France and the other I travel with from UK.
Bought first set, in their second production year and have ridden them hard for upto 8 weeks a season since. Have had no issues and find them harder wearing than previous K2 regular strapins which needed parts every season.
Their ease of use is the primary attraction, just step in, lift the heel back and you're off. Great for strapping in on the chair or mid way up a drag lift. |

I bought these on the advice of the legendary Roger from Mayhem. I had done my first board lesson the night before, and my abs were knackered. Knowing practically nothing about bindings, I wondered if there was anything like a ski binding, and lo and behold...
They are very easy to operate, and great at what they do, and I have just enjoyed so much more time not having to buckle up and release. It probably is not as important if you are doing long runs, in resort, but for the quick up and down of the local snow-slope, it is a complete God-send.
The only complaint really is that the ratchets on my mate's Burton bindings are very heavy chrome/stainless, and just feel far meatier. I have got the CTC version and the plastic just feels a bit weak.
As my riding gets better and more twisty I have found that there is a tendency for my following toe-strap to undo itself. I am pretty certain that it is not because of anything I am doing when I am on the poma at Castleford, so it might be a problem.
I have not taken them outdoors yet, so I will update post-Banff next month. |
