This was my 2nd time snowboarding, after last being in New Zealand.
I was with my girlfriend and 2 of her skier friends. We visited at 19th March til the 26th... and had no new snow, which looked slightly worrying.
Transfer time was 14 hours (hahahha theres a reason for this, i travelled down from Poland with my girlfriend and her 2 friends (them being polish))
We stayed in Pozza Di Fassa (10min drive from Campitello) at a great apartment, 3 bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms and 1 double, with cooking facilities, etc) and it was cheap at €200 each WITH ski pass INCLUDED as it was free-ski week! we were able to make the first lift at 8.30am every morning and the queues werent too long at all for the gondola up to Col Rodella. After there you have a few nice runs to take down toward Canazei way (Pian Frataces) where you can easily access some nice easier runs at Belvedere, or head towards Arabba.
Im not the strongest of snowboarders, but i managed the Green route Sella Ronda with ease (did it with my 2 skier friends in 4 hours inc. stopping at Corvara for a couple of runs down some nice long reds) but there were a couple of very slow blues... but didnt have to skate at any point. Ive heard the orange route is alot better as theres steeper runs and less blues.
Plan De Gralba has a nice red run from the top down the red to the left through some nice wide tree lined runs.
I would say my favorite run is the slope from the belvedere area down to canazei but only early in the day, i had a good 3/4 straight runs up and down there in the morning and it was nice, empty and fast. But like a few other areas around by around 3pm it was riddled with moguls, and was very slushy!
Im not a freestyle boarder, so didnt try out any of the parks, pipes, etc... but there were a couple of parks which looked like they might have been good had i been that way inclined!
As others have said about other parts of the Dolomiti superski areas, us snowboarders are VASTLY out numbered by skiers! i got a few dissaproving glares from skiers when u get to a long flat to a chairlift and youve unclipped yourself and theyre trying to whizz past you...
All in all, a good trip, had perfect weather (except for lack of new snow) lots of sun, lovely food, prices are very reasonable! snow conditions were mostly good in the mornings. worth a visit if youre beginner/intermediate but probably not enough for an expert! |
