| I had heard a few horror stories about Avoriaz and how 'ugly' it was as a resort but as soon as I arrived - all the stories were proven wrong. I found the resort to be be very friendly (although small) and was not the eyesore I was told it was going to be. The runs are amazing and you could quite easily ski for the week in different areas each day. We went in January when the weather can be mixed at best but we were lucky enough to get 3 good day's and even the day's when it was overcast/blizzards were excellent. The fact that you can easily board over to switerland was also an excellent bonus. The varied styles of run made every day a new challenge from off-piste tree runs with huge drops/jumps to the massive "Wall" run. |
|
| Strengths |
| Large ski run area, small queues (except main lifts), varied run types. No car resort so free to wander the town |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Small resort (only 9 bars & 2 clubs). Can be expensive when out drinking.. Stay away from Hooters (£6 a pint). |

| Great place to ride, never get bored of the place cos it's got access to so many runs & off piste. If your into parks & pipes, it's got loads as well – has DJ booth and some nice easy rails. Been skiing for 13 years, and boarding for 4 now...the portes du soeil region feels like home to me, some great off piste bits hidden away round the chatel side are fantastic for freeriding and then building some jumps in the afternoon. BIG + the whole place is very quite compared to other places i've been. |
