Finally made the move from Flows back to conventional straps after 6 years. I wanted something that was going combine some of the quick entry/release of Flows with the adjustability and feel of straps. After loads of looking around I decided that the K2 Auto system looked to suit my needs. After I'd ordered them I was still unsure that they'd be as easy to get into and get out of as the last 2 pairs of Flows, I nearly bought some NXT FSE's.
After they came and I'd set them up according to the YouTube video I was worried that I'd bought a large which would be a size too small. I'm a UK 10 with Northwave Decade SL2's, which have a big footprint compared to other boots. The toe strap of the bindings didn't look like they'd easily go round end of the boot after they'd been released and I'd be falling all over the place at the bottom of the run. After an hour of adjusting the straps and heel cup and lengthening the base plate I got them to a setting that looked like it would work but the straps were at the very end of their adjustability. If very important to get toe strap to start tightening as the ankle strap also tightens.
When I finally got the chance to use my worries were dissappearing with every run. I could place my foot in base plate, flick up the toe strap and then close and ratchet the ankle strap without any messing about. Like others have commented, you have to divise your own little way of getting out of them, I've gone for the 'ballerina toe pirouette', heel out then lift out your toe, seems to work. One thing I was so surprised about was how comfy they were. Its been a while since I used strap bindings and although Flows arent uncomfortable the K2's were in a different league. I had no pressure points and they were done up as tight as they could be done. I wasnt expecting them to be this comfy, this is what stood out for me.
Found them to be slightly less responsive than my NXT FR's, as they appear to be made for a bit of everything, therefore a little softer highbacks etc. I didn't notice that this affecting my riding though.
Overall I'm extremely happy with the K2's and I wont be looking at anything else for a few years. |
