The second set of lessons with Alliance and the main reason for returning to the same resort. We booked private lessons so as to progress quicker, and progress we did! Simon guided us through the many facets of snowboarding in a genial and knowledgeable way, without being patronising or impatient. We met the other instructors and they showed an interest in us that you just would not get with the larger, faceless organisations. We will be booking early for next year so we can get even more time with them; if you want to progress fast- whatever your level- don't even bother looking at another resort or school!
Strengths
Value (you get what you pay for but they are cheap considering the standard of instruction)
Customer service

I was massively impressed by the team and their commitment to boarding. I was relatively new to snowboarding, but developed quite quickly so I entered their level 3 group lessons, and was pushed massively. I sat constantly on the limit of my ability, so skill and confidence both grew very quickly.

Even though they are group lessons, riders are very much set their own targets on an individual basis, which is ideal, and means you won't be held back (or hold anyone else back).

I'm going back for more lessons this season. A testimony in itself.
Strengths
Some of the most qualified instructors around. Technique is something that will be hammered into you right from the ground upwards. Even experienced riders were having their stances altered to facilitate better riding.
Weaknesses
As a result of the strengths, expect to unlearn everything you thought you knew about technique, since it may very well be wrong. Not really a weakness, but it can temporarily halt your learning, however, it's for the greater good.

I booked 6 mornings over 2 weeks (July/August) with Neil McNair who turned out to be one of the team that founded Alliance and some sort of Grand Poo Baa for BASI snowboarding. They seem to have about 6 or 7 instructors at Alliance, all from BASI.

I'd recently passed my BASI level one so I had already been converted to their system but felt my riding, though controlled and solid lacked snap, crackle and pop. As anyone who rides with a dynamic style knows, this is essential to showing off on the hill and generally looking young, trim and sexy.

I had a few low moments as my weaknesses were exposed and tackled - Neil has a very 'on it' style on training. I had been used to more time to take in and consolidate a new idea before moving on. However I got used to the tougher learning pace as the slightly messy 'knot' of my riding got untied and got re-tied into something much better.

From being slightly locked into smooth arching turns, I can now be much more playful when I fancy. I'm not there yet and I'm still learning this more dynamic style - much more board flex, sucking legs in, driving through the turn, popping off the board out of turns and into 180's but it has totally transformed the way I feel about riding.

Now, as opposed to snowboarding being a bit of fun while the kids were in Ski school. I'm totally stoked about getting better and I'm loving my riding. So much more fun when you're really riding the board. I can't wait to use my new skills on more demmanding stuff than Tignes summer slush and the Chill Factor.

The moral for me is not to be content with a steady intermediate standard of riding because the fun hasn't even properly started!
Strengths
Very technical and very detailed approach. Kind of an academic without the briefcase and facial hair.
Very enthusiastic.
Very clear.
Spots your weaknesses and sorts them out.
He delivered exactly what I asked for - more flow and pop in my riding.
Weaknesses
This isn't really a weakness but I don't think he'd be that happy with just riding around and giving you a few tips. A much more 'full-on' coaching style. I guess the group lessons in the season would be, by nature, less intense.
Similar Schools/Camps Used
ESF - Fine for skiing but for snowboarding, a complete waste of time and they should be ashamed of themselves
McNabb Technical Clinic - Oh right, that's how you turn a snowboard
Alpinelines - excellent small group coaching in Chamonix, Keith set my sights on better riding
Alliance - Couldn't give 5 out of 5 because the scroll down menu reads awesome. Not a word I'm comfy with when I take the mick out of my kids for using it.

Wanted to share some thoughts on Alliance Snowboard school Tignes with you all. I went in Jan this year and was in the level 3 group with Ben as my instructor. Firstly as has been said customer service...excellent, booking very smooth, Renelle checked my experience level and what I wanted to achieve and ran though meeting points etc. she also called when I arrived in resort to check all arrived ok - nice touch. Now the important bit the lessons, again excellent small group 4 to start week and due to a couple of people heading off home early 2 at end of week!

Ben my instructor was very thorough and ensured at all stages we got personal feedback and analysis of our riding. It certainly wasn't just a ride and follow my leader style at all. We worked on specific skills and Ben observed us from 'up-piste' and 'down-piste' giving individual feedback and tips. The attention to detail was great at ironing out those bad habits and improved my riding no end. We also had plenty of fun on piste, trying kickers in the park, and off-piste in some powder fields (a personal highlight).

All in all a great 4 days and I'd reccommend Alliance to anyone who wants to improve their riding. Talking to people in the other groups beginners etc all rated the lessons and were cruising down blues linking turns at the end of the week.

Big thanks to Renelle and her team and especially Ben. If you're in Tignes look them up you won't regret it!

Went to Tignes to visit/stay with my friends who live in Le Lavachet. Due to their work commitments I couldn't spend all day everyday riding with them so decided to book some lessons/riding time with Alliance on the recommendation of my friend.

Well for a start their customer service is excellent. They replied to all my emails the same day (ok I didn't read them to the next day as they did their paperwork/email repsonses in their evening time) and I even had a call from Renelle at home to have a chat about my riding, what I wanted to accomplish, etc and to advise that my booking had been confirmed....was dead impressed with that !

My instructor Joel was great and very friendly. For their "Trainee Group" (advanced beginers/low intermediates if you want to call it that) I was impressed with what Joel taught during the week. The first day is spent going over the very basics again but this is a good refresh and also good for them to point out any bad habits you've picked up. They will check your board setup, stance, etc and will get you to try out new stance setup's to see if this helps your technique. The following days went from improving turns, to board flexing, pedalling, ollies, butters, riding switch, etc.

I must also thank Joel for giving me the confidence to get on the board again after I had a nasty head slam whilst riding on my own on the Tuesday. It really knocked my confidence and I was nervous getting back on the board but credit to his teaching skills for getting me back on the Mtn.
Strengths
Strengths:

Excellent customer service, really friendly staff, level of teaching
Weaknesses
Weaknesses:

Joel was too much of a fitness fanatic and always shot off to the gym/pool after our lessons instead of coming to the pub ! :-)
