A 20-year-old student from the University of Colorado has died in a snowboarding accident at Breckenridge Ski Resort. The incident happened on Friday (18/11/2011) when Evan Massini crashed into a tree while snowboarding on the resort’s Peak 8 Northstar trail. |

He has been described as an experienced snowboarder and skier who was preparing to work in a resort. Massini, of Westbrook, Conn, died from internal injuries which he suffered in the collision.
Massini’s father, Edward Massini, spoke to DailyCamera and said: "He was doing what he loved to do. He had just called us and said he got the bindings on his new snowboard fixed, so he could get back on the mountain."
Edward Massini spoke of how he used to take Evan and his older brother, Mark, skiing when they were just 2 years old and both quickly developed a love for skiing and snowboarding.
"I used to hold them between my legs, and we would go down the slopes," he said.
"They grew up in the mountains."
According to his father, Massini was a very skilled snowboarder and it was "out of character" for him to take unsafe risks while on the mountain. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash; however, his torso hit the tree, which caused the huge internal injuries.
