After colliding with a 7-year-old boy on the ski slopes of Colorado, Travis luffman was handed a civil fine and was charged with reckless endangerment and third-degree assault. |
|
This is a criminal offence and after it went to court Luffman, 22, was found not guilty.
The jury deliberated the case for an-hour-and-a-half and eventually came to their decision at Pitkin County Court.
The incident happened in March when Luffman was on his break from work. He was snowboarding whilst still wearing his Aspen Skiung Company uniform and collided with the boy, who was on holiday from Brazil, which left him in hospital overnight.
Luffman was first cited with a violation of the Colorado Skier Safety Act, a conviction under which carries a civil fine of up to $1,000, however he was then charged criminally and taken to court.
Neither the victim or his family were at the trial and the Judge refused to allow witnesses to give their opinions on the crash, citing a pre-trial order regarding witness disclosures which the District Attorney fail to comply with. |
