In Search of That High - the Thrills of Skiing and Snowboarding

There's no bigger rush than skiing down a mountain side with the wind in your face and the sun on your back. It's unlike any other experience and yet it’s one that you can control. If you're an experienced skier, you can search for the highest speeds and the biggest rush. If you're a novice, you'll probably just enjoy the freedom of the slopes and the chance to explore your limits.
Newcomers

If you're thinking about taking up skiing or snowboarding as a hobby, you're probably wondering how much training is involved and how much it is likely to cost. Unlike a sport such as golf, skiing is pretty easy to learn, assuming that it’s taught correctly. Thankfully, there's no need to carry out tedious practice regimes for months on end before you can take to the slopes. In fact, you can get skiing after a week's practice and lessons in a ski school.

Learning snowboarding

As with skiing, the basics can be learnt fairly quickly from a trained instructor. You need to be comfortable with the board strapped to your feet. For that to happen, you have to spend time on it. So it's wise to get some training in the UK before hitting foreign slopes on a snowboarding holiday.

Ski holidays

As ski-training is relatively quick, you don't have to be a proficient boarder before you book a break. You could look for ski chalet holidays well before you know what to do on the slopes. However, some time on a dry slope could help you learn the ropes. If it's been a while since you skied, a dry slope could also help you get back in the swing of things, or just make you remember why you love skiing so much.

Adrenaline rush

The adrenaline rushes you get from skiing and snowboarding can't be reproduced in any other sport. Performing high speed descents, and perhaps even tricks, is something you can't replicate in a car, on a skateboard, or through something like parkour and free running.

Expert skier

If you think you've experienced it all, think again. There's no limit to the rush you can get from skiing and it’s a sport that constantly rewards you. You can challenge yourself by choosing different terrain with different snow conditions which helps to build up your experience.

There’s nothing like snow sports… nothing. It’s exhilarating. It’s liberating. It’s life on the edge. As soon as you strap on those skis or mount that snowboard, it’s time to rock ‘n’ roll!
