It was a great weekend for Finland at the 2010 FIS Snowboard & Freestyle Junior World Championships. |

The Finns swept the competition aside on the final day of action at Lake Wanaka, with Enni Rukajarvi and Petja Pliroinen, both 19, taking both the women's and men's Junior World Champion titles.
Rukajarvi was particularly impressive, securing a top score of 26.0 with a giant backside 540, leaving her rivals Urska Pribosic and Klaudia Medlova to take silver and bronze.
The talented rider revealed her delight at taking home the title of Champion:
"It was very exciting to ride such a good jump, even though the weather didn't allow us much practise time. I'm so happy to have won!"
Meanwhile, in the men's competition, Pilroinen claimed a second consecutive junior title with a score of 27.3. However, Pilroinen showed plenty of modesty following his impressive win:
"It's so nice to win for a second time. The other guys were all riding really strongly so it's great to be world champion."
Former New Zealand snowboarder and Championships Patron Juliane Bray also revealed her admiration for the 2010 field of athletes:
"All the riders really wanted to hit the jump because it was a fantastic jump with great set up. In between the clouds the riders who wanted it the most put on an amazing show with at least five of the riders doing double cork tricks (1080 spin with a double somersault), the most progressive trick currently in snowboarding. The women's big air was a massive challenge as they were so young and the jump was so big - I've got big respect for all them." |
