Why go?
Courchevel is in the heart of the French Alps, and is a thriving tourist destination in the largest linked ski area in the world – Les Trois Vallées.
Within the picturesque Tarentaise Valley, there are so many potential resorts to consider here – the valley is home to many of the world’s most famous resorts including Les Arcs, La Plagne, Val D’Isere and Tignes. It would be perhaps better to change the question above to Why Not Go? – Any true winter sports enthusiast needs to put some time aside to visit this stunning ski holiday destination, whether you’re staying in Courchevel itself or heading further afield.

Where to stay?
Ideally, you’ll want to stay somewhere that soaks up some of the most spectacular views the Tarentaise Valley has to offer. There are a number of hotels that can be found within easy walking distance from the slopes – from the warmth and comfort of the Hotel Le Chabichou to the mountainside luxury of the Hotel Bellecôte.

Alternatively, if you want to relax and unwind in a chalet, Pleisure Holidays may have the ideal mountain escape for you. From the spacious Chalet Sapin, with accommodation for up to 22 people, to Chalet Marlet overlooking the Bozel valley, you can find a chalet to suit your needs both on and away from the slopes.

For those interested in fine dining, the cuisine at restaurant La Saulire needs to be sampled – popular dishes include truffle risotto, wild sea bass and the sumptuous Chocoholic’s Delight dessert.

Other popular restaurants in this awe-inspiring location include Bar Le Jump, renowned for its simple, tasty dishes and outstanding service; Aux 3 Bo, one of the most innovative of all Courchevel restaurants with an intriguing mix of French and Japanese cuisine; and La Table du Lana, an ideal spot for a lazy lunch, with a delicious hot and cold buffet daily.

Chill out at:
Le Kalico is fantastic if you’re looking for the best of both worlds – offering a succulent Tex Mex menu in the early evening before turning into a popular live music venue running until the early hours.
For a more sophisticated (and expensive) night out, plan a visit to Le Bristrot de la Mangeoire, a piano bar that really swings into life after 11pm. It’ll be certainly be one of the experiences that will live long in the memory after your sojourn in Courchevel.
If money’s no object, then you’ll have to pencil in a visit to Le Grand Café in Rue Park City – it’s one of the most exclusive drinking establishments in the whole of the district.

If you get the chance:
Enjoy the outstanding work of legendary artist Salvador Dali by visiting the Dali at the Top exhibition currently running in the resort.
Many of the Spanish surrealist’s sculptures are on display in Courchevel throughout the winter season. Maps are available around the resort for anyone who wants to embark on a cultural treasure hunt.
The ambitious exhibition is part of a plan by the local tourist board to promote Courchevel as a ski resort with a twist, as the board’s Head of Marketing, Veronique Beulz, explained recently: “We are always trying to be different as a ski destination.”
