Excitement is building ahead of the FIS Junior World Championships, which will run from 19-31 August.
Over 300 talented young boarders are descending on Wanaka in anticipation of the inaugural junior championships. The event is also significant as it marks the first time an FIS Championships takes place in the Southern Hemisphere.

A high quality field has increased the interest in the championships, with several riders in the world's top 20 taking part in the event.

It's the New Zealand team that looks set to make the biggest impression on home soil, with current world number 1 and local boy Jossie Wells in their ranks as well as Olympic boarder Rebecca Sinclair.

However, the 36-strong New Zealand team will face strong competition from the likes of world number 5, Fanny Smith of Switzerland, and US freeski halfpipe talent Hannah Haupt.

Great Britain has four athletes taking part in the championships. The event will be launched with a 'Parade of Nations' at 5pm local time this Friday.
