From October 7th '09 you will have to pay to take skis and snowboards on British Airways flights.
Passengers will be now charged £28 if they book online in advance or £35 if they pay at the airport. However, Metrosnow.co.uk has discovered a loop hole. If you’re flying BA’s economy class and can fit all your luggage in your ski/board bag, so that you’re checking in one piece of luggage that weighs less than 23kgs, it’s still FREE.

A BA spokeswoman said: “Sporting equipment will now be included as part of the customer’s free checked baggage allowance on all bookings for travel on or after October 7, 2009. Any bag that exceeds the free checked baggage allowance will incur an excess baggage fee.”

By comparison, EasyJet charges £18.50 online and £26 at the airport, Ryanair charges £30 online and £40 at the airport. While Swiss International Air Lines is still offering free ski and board carriage.

This still allows two bags for the USA or Canada flights per person this winter, your baggage allowance includes two pieces up to 23 kg per bag/case . One for the snowboard bag -plus luggage up to 23kg ...and another bag/case for the usual up to 23kg!

Many of the Atol bonded holidays that include flight, transfers and accommodation use charter flights through to France, Switzerland and Italy and charge usually £15 per board bag carriage.
