A beginner snowboarder died on Sunday in what has been described as a “freak accident” on a run at Mountain High ski resort in Wrightwood. |

Angelique De Leon, 23, was a resident from Riverside, and she was wearing a helmet when she fell.
The incident happened at around 4pm, when De Leon fell on a run which she had already successfully descended several times.
Her fall was awkward and she was taken to San Bernardino Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead at around 5.30pm.
Deputy Jeff Lewison, of the San Bernardino county coroner’s office, told the LA Times: “It was a head-over-heels fall, and she sustained internal injuries. It just somehow hit wrong.”
Mountain High spokeswoman Kim Hermon also spoke to the LA Times, saying that De Leon was at the resort with friends, but no one else was hurt in the incident.
“She didn’t hit an obstacle or anything like that,” Hermon said. “It was a normal run. Basic, everyday snowboarding.”
