It may not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a boarding holiday, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye out for the Afriski resort, where ambitious plans are afoot to create Africa's highest bar and develop the continent's first major snowboarding industry. Currently, the resort attracts 12,000 visitors every year.

The radical plans are part of an initiative to attract holidaymakers from the high-end market, and the project will see improvements to the wintersports facilities in addition to the construction to several luxury golf courses and hotels in the area.
