On the ground check at midnight - looks like high areas in Surrey will be good for some riding tomorrow

What's fallen here is incredibly light and dry, just sadly with no existing snow underneath it's taking a long while to build up much of a depth.
If it keeps up at the current rate until 8am or so in the morning, we should be in for a little fun tomorrow (on grassy slopes that will work with low snow cover).

So get out there on Sunday and have some 100% FREE fun!

Boards by the door already! Thinking of hitting frimley rec before the kids do! Set alarm for 6.30 but looking out now it's a little sleety so might not get anything!

I live right on the border of Kent, still Surrey, but right next to Biggen Hill Airport ... And damn the amount of snow on the fields and hills, only makes me wish I had gotten into the sport sooner!!!

If your out, have fun!!

Did anyone else get out there? We certainly had some fun
Here's some piccies from our day in the local snow.

Last night things were looking good, fine dry powdery snow, looked real promising

By morning though, it had got a fair bit more claggy and wet (even the cat was pondering if it was worth going out in), but forecasted rain never happened

So first stop was some urban hiking, and urban boarding.. gotta be done to scare the living daylights out of early morning dog walkers..

After the urban pavements, a local park. Dogs always seem to love chasing snowboarders...

Then through local woodland..

Onto a busy local recreation ground. It was running fast, but too many kids for a proper mess about.

We decided this was all a bit tame. We needed to find some steeper slopes, and hopefully deeper snow. The road trip begins - Looking good on the drive up....

And when we get there, yep, snow depth looks OK!

First run on the North Downs, one fresh line put down

PowderPup, happy with that one for a first 'proper' line of the day

After a few phone calls, we hook up with Ianastles to head 'deeper backcountry'

GoPro'd up, we hit a new slope

First lines laid down

Weapons of pow destruction. Did we destroy this slope? Well...

New transformers toy available! It hikes, it snowboards, it films with included GoPro!

By mid afternoon the temperature was up, and with all the hiking our pile of 'stuff' at the top of the slope was growing fast. T-shirt boarding was order of the day!

Success? Most definitely!

Hopefully we'll get some footage cut together at some point

Just posting the vid here ( it's up somewhere else too )

If you were in Surrey at the weekend and didn't go out snowboarding, shame on you!

Really nice vid, and love that tune.

Where abouts [on The North Downs> was the 'mountain'? I was itching to get out but had some things to do that couldn't wait... thanks for rubbing my face in what I missed ;-)

good work fella,
I normally hit the local hill with my friend in the village but we were both on kid duty on sunday so had to play sledges on the hills, did get a couple of runs in but not as nice as yours! Avoiding sledgers on a snowboard isn't much fun!

nice pics there, thanks for sharing. I find when you go boarding on othe local hill with all the sledgers they look at you as if they've never seen a snowboard before :-)

Yep avoiding sledges and sledgers is for the best :D
They destroy the snow, and most have no awareness that boards are surrounded by sharp metal.

As for location, you'll have to come out with us next time!

Well Thursday night's snowfall was a nice opportunity to get back out there and put some more fresh lines down. In places where the new snow had fallen on old undisturbed snow from the weekend, and with the sun shining, it was really luvverly. Silky smooth top layer on a firm base.

However the lack of overall depth this time had us scoping out better slopes that would work with less coverage. While not quite as epic as last time, we still managed to get fresh tracks on a few slopes early on this morning
