been going to bulgaria for 3 yrs now. pampo is a great place to learn. however. last sunday we found only one lift running (bottom half, and poor run to base). after lots of tramping about and questioning in broken bulgy we found only enough info to keep us ignorant. "electric probs" "tree damage" and a lot of shrugs left us cynical and pissed off. that and the fact that the upper lift had been completely stripped of cars. something was afoot. they kept saying they would get the rickety old butlins chair lift running and every now and then switched it on to tease everyone. by lunchtime no one was riding the top down. it seemed like they just wanted to keep the upper parts clear. this was sooooo frustrating cos conditions were superb, tonnes of the white. on monday the 2 main lifts up to top were still shut. at the foot of "the wall" they have been erecting seating and tents for an upcoming tournament and i cant help but think that it is related. what grinds my gears is their dishonesty, apathy and outright arrogance. they were still selling day passes to folks when most of the mountain was unusable. having only boarded in pampo so far i cant compare this behaviour with other resorts...... please tell me it is not like this....

Never seen that before, you've been going to the same place for 3 years though, it's about time you tried somewhere else, the choice out there makes it a crime not to :-)

We were in Borovets last week and never had anything near to that! Slopes were dead quiet, really good friendly atmosphere with everyone (skiers and boarders). When the lifts/gondolas were closed it was because of bad weather, but BoroSki staff were always on hand to keep you updated.

Others that were in Borovets with us had been to Pamps before and were quite complementary about it.

Must have just been you mate

wanted to go to tignes this year but mate wouldnt budge from bulgy (he has apartment over there and likes to keep going [even tho we have yet to stay there>). pampo, tho pretty, is quickly outgrown. it is cheap and the black and reds are tidy and uncrowded cos its a learners resort really. just wish the staff were more informed and open with the truth. they arent doing themselves any favours. lots of package folks who arrived on saturday were not happy and it only takes a few taps on a keyboard to put everyone else off. as for me. next year france. maybe even in march if the season holds...

We had a similar experience in Bansko in January. I don't think i would go back to Bulgaria after spending a week in Bansko.

I was in Bansko last week and couldn't find many faults... If I did have to complain about anything it would be the fact they seemed to spending all their energy preparing the World cup runs... this meant that there were a couple of runs closed and the runs that were open weren't prepared... having said that we had a lot of powder to play with once the pistes had been tracked so it didn't really matter to me.

Can't comment on Pamporovo, but a friend of mine is out there this week so I'll ask her how it was when she gets back, hopefully its not as bad as you had it.

This happens quite a bit in Pamp's m8 in my experience.
If you check out the discussion board on Bulgariaski.com (apologies for directing you to a plankers site - but it does have useful info and local contacts) - you should find a few other similar comments and / or be able to ask further questions.

According to the link on snow-forecast for Pamps, there is a skiing comp going on next weekend so they will no doubt be preparing for this and, typically, closing off some of the slopes no doubt for ski practice !

Seems a bit short-sighted in my view over what must be one of their busiest periods, it being UK schools half-term and all. However with the amount of snow they seem to be getting this year I don't imagine that the Pamp's operators will be all that bothered if a few tourists up sticks and go elsewhere.

Me and my partner Tracey will be out there for the 6th or 7th time on 4th March so I am hoping they will have sorted everything out by then.

I'd rather die on my feet than live my life on my knees !

maybe its like the russian resorts, where if they have the prime minister or president or other VIP that wants to ski, the close down the resort to allow them to have it to themselves
