#1 Women's beginner boards ????? Posted 05/08/2010 @ 19:26 |

Hiya People
I'm another newbie that has been lurking for a while. I'm a beginner who's just recovering from a very sore coccxys and I have learnt my lesson the hard way...impact shorts are currently on order
I'm looking for a good beginner board, I'm female, 5,7" and over 70kg. I'm kinda thinking a K2 Luna 154, Burton Feather 153 or a Ride Compact 153. Has anyone tried these boards? Could anyone offer advice??? I'm wanting a mountain board rather than one for the parks or boxes....not even close to that level yet. All thoughts would be welcomed.
Cheers x |

As a beginner 154/153 might be a little longish, try and go a couple of CM's shorter if you can, between 149-152 I'd say.
My fiancee who is very similar to you has a 149 K2 Skyla, which is a lovely little board, couple with some Ride LXh bindings.
Have you got your own boots yet? If not, then concentrate on these first, no board/bindings combination will work very well if you don't have the right boots. |

Hey, I'm pretty much the same height and weight as you and have about 3 weeks under my belt. I bought a 2008/09 154 K2 Luna and I absolutely love it.
It's so easy to ride and I think it's a good board to progress with. I haven't done much park stuff but it rides just great on and off piste. You should be able to find out in the sales - I got mine for £130! |

Thanks for the tips guys...154 probably is a bit big for me, so I think I'm going to fo for 151 K2 Luna. Do you reckon that size will be ok??? The boards that I've been learning on in the Chill Factor are a 152 !!
As for boots I have tried on a few, but the most comfortable I have found was the men's Thirty Two Prion. |

I would try and get womens boots if you can. We girlies tend to have longer calf muscles and so the womens boots are cut lower down at the back to prevent digging into your calves which can hurt a fair bit!
I wore mens boots for years as i never knew there was a difference but now that i've worn womens ones i will never go back to mens ones again! |

Hey Boardgirl
The reason why I have chosen mens boots is because I am a uk size 8 in boots. I have been to a few board shops and searched online for women's boots, but the all seem to just go to a uk size 7.5, which is too small for me |

For our first holiday my wife rented a board and was given a Burton Feelgood Rocker which she really struggled with, unfortunately they had no other boards for her so she battled on with it.
When we got back she landed up buying a Feather which she absolutely loves - nice halfway point between the LTR's at the fridges and the Feather |

I think an important thing is not to think you have to go for a "beginner" board - my first board was a Never Summer Infinity and has lasted me from being a beginner right through to Intermediate. |

QUOTE (emmki - 11/08/2010 @ 10:08) I think an important thing is not to think you have to go for a "beginner" board - my first board was a Never Summer Infinity and has lasted me from being a beginner right through to Intermediate. Beginner boards are made for a reason. They usually have a softer flex and bevelled edges to aid progression. Go for an advanced board too early and it's more likely to hinder progression and result in bad habits through learning to ride an advanced board. |

I'm not saying go for an advanced board, simply don't feel limited to a complete entry board. |

Hiya!!! I spent a good couple of months learning on my beginner board last season. I rode a 149 K2 Skyla which was perfect for me at the time [i'm 5ft2!> the extra length gave me a bit of safety and there was nothing special going on with it so I could perfect my basic skills. Have since moved on to a K2 Va Va Voom Rocker which i love even more but would DEFINATELY recommend going for a board that is aimed at beginners =>
I agree with the others, go for womens boots cos they're made specially for us => but i understand that the mens ones fit better....my friend is also a size8 and finds mens boots better for her!!
Hope this helps m'dear!

Regarding the boots, most companies make ladies boots up to a 9 but barely any shops will stock 'em. (The lady owner of the shop i used to work in had size 9's so we did).
Don't skimp on your boots. UK importers will hold stock of all sizes but get in there early, go to a good independent board shop in late october and you'll be able to get them to order in whatever you want.
PS your calf muscles reach lower down your leg than a guy's (on average) so maybe your well toned legs have more need for women's specific boots, not less.
PPS i'm 5'8", 70kg all togged up and recon 156 is ideal all mountain for me, 150 would be my jib stick. |
