All the gear guides are like that. I suspect the problem is that the gear is provided by the manufacturers, so if the mag says something that's not too positive they won't get any gear next time round... If the mag had enough dosh to actually buy every single board, binding, boot, etc we'd get a full review, but that might add quite alot to the annual subscription. It's a shame, 'cos a proper review would be great, but the economics are against us. I view the guides more as a "taster" of what's out there than a thorough critical review. Also, the glossy finish can be quite impractical on the arse... |

Gear Guides are really nothing more than a chance to see a lot of stuff in one place for the forthcoming season, they are pretty rubbish for giving you any kind of actual review.
That's the one good thing about Transworld Snowboarding though, is the Good Wood Reviews. Though in general, I found that North American magazines are full of even more adverts than here in the UK.
I'm not sure how much is true to the effect of magazines being given cash by manufacturers. Most though I believe will have tested the gear back in Spring, such as at the Board Test and other such days. |

Are the tees & beanies re-designed for this season, or are they going to be the same as last years?? Great Mag btw, always like having it drop through the mailbox! |

Yep, waiting for me on the matt when I returned home! Sadly having to ration my reading of it though to last the month!!!!!
Any idea what the freebies are? I never got last years either - in fact i only got the discount card as I spoke to Tristan Kennedy at the Metro show last year - could have done with a wax scraper last year! Hope they remember the regulars this year! |

not so sure, think when i signed up it was just a hat, shirt + discount pass.
though through word of mouth i've heard they aren't so great with giving them out, so i'll be pestering them if i dont get anything in a month or so |

Board tests are bolloks, mainly because its such a subjective thing depending on the rider - one mans poison and all that.
Good Wood in particular is a load of crap, because the bigger companies pay to have editorial in Transworld, i have heard many horror stories of the product bien pushed by Transworld in return for financial incentives. |

Got mine too.
Noticed they've gone from matt covers back to gloss - got to say I was a big fan of the matt look.
Normal high standard though - and looking forward to the Corsica feature in the next edition. |

QUOTE (Sinbad - 24/09/2010 @ 12:51) Noticed they've gone from matt covers back to gloss - got to say I was a big fan of the matt look. same here, thought the matt finish was a nice touch. still, had a quick flick through the mag and its looking good, going to have a proper read later. Just watch Homies 3 too, and whilst its not my favourite type of riding, I do like what Nico puts out, good movie, good tunes and its definitely got me pumped for winter!
does anybody else feel winters pretty much here when the first Whitelines drops onto the door mat?! |
