The magazine itself is pretty good, but dont count on actually getting the free goods they claim you will.

Have a look through the forums and you'll find a massive thread with tons of us who either a) never got a sausage or b) only got something after complaining several times.

And all that after they took the money off us regular subscribers in February for a September magazine.

My advice:

Subscribe, pay the first direct debit for year 1 then cancel it straight away so you dont get charged again in February for the next year. Re-subscribe again in August if you like the mag.

The mag itself is well worth the £28 in my opinion, especially with the DVD's.

It just annoys a lot of people that you don't get the stuff thats advertised as free (T, Beanie, Scraper etc). If they had never advertised it, it wouldn't have bothered me (or I'm sure a lot of folk). Just that when they did, it felt like we were missing out on something and for the most part their customer service for those of us who complained about it was pretty shoddy.

Cheers for the advice Gaz. So you never recieved your free goodies? It seems weird that they advertise this in black and white then you dont actually get it! I was expecting some kind of small print included in the advert but there isnt any. Strange how they get away with that. Did you get your whitelines membership card? I was also interested in the 2 hours for the price 1 at snozone......

I got all my free stuff and have never had a problem with it. In fact I was using my Whitelines scraper just the other day.

Hey

I have subscribed to Whitelines for a few years now and its a great magazine, well worth getting and well priced given that you get several DVDs on the cover. Also the other two UK snowboard mags have now ceased so you dont really have a choice.

I had never had any problems with my subscription until this season when my freebies never turned up. Despite complaining 3 times since October no freebies turned up. I wouldnt be bothered about them if it wasnt advertised, but like others have said, I felt like I wasn't getting what I had paid for.

Having read other treads on this forum it seemed that new subscribers were getting the free stuff but not those on a rolling subscription.

I received email replies to my complaints from both the publishers Factory Media, who assured me I would be getting the freebies in due course, and Ed, the editor of the mag who was really cool and apologised and said he was pissed off that he works so hard to produce a good mag and then its cocked up by the publishers.

Anyways, my freebies turned up a couple of weeks ago just before the last issue of the season, and AFTER they had already taken my direct debit for next season and did not include the scraper, just the T, beanie and Xscape save card. The enclosed note said that from now on the freebies would be sent out in september so it remains to be seen if they are true to their word.

Then, this week, another package arrived from WL. more freebies!! Another T, another beanie, another saver card, but still no scraper.

To sum up, get the magazine - its good. And despite the problems with the subscription freebies, the mag itself was always on time through my letterbox.

No, none of the freebies came through so I never got the saver card either, which hasn't bothered me this winter as much as it might have given the snow up here. I've had no reason to go near Xscape since December, spending my time on the actual hills.

This year I'll sign up later in July/August and see what happens with the freebies. If I don't get them, I'll cancel my DD again before the February subscription is taken and do the same the year after.

As I said before, It's a good mag and well worth the £28 a year. But for me the reason I'm OK with them taking my money 6 months before the first mag comes out is because I'm gonna get some free stuff at the end of it. If that free stuff never arrives (as has happened this year), they're not getting my money to see them through the summer.

Sounds from you post that you havn't ever read the mag.

Perhaps it might be an idea to pop into WHS and have a flick through it to see if you like the look of the contents before shelling out a chunk of your hard earned.

I like the mag but am fed up with the freebies issues. I just can't believe it is that hard to do it right.

After much chasing I ended up with 2 hats, a scraper, a discount card (worth it's weight in gold through the summer as the discount applies at evenings and weekends - sub more than paid for). I had given up hope on the t-shirt and then it arrived on Saturday. Wrong colour, but they did get the size right.

edit: I will continue to subscribe as the discount card more than covers the subscription cost for me.

Hi All

There seems to be a bit of confusion and frustration about the Whitelines subscription package.
So I thought it was worth posting a reply to try and clear things up.

Firstly, I think I'm right in saying Whitelines is the only mag in the UK that sends gifts to its subscribers every year as long as you keep subscribing. If you know of any others, then let me know because I would like to know how they do it.

We changed the system last year because the previous system was not working. We now source the gift package over the summer to give to new and existing subscribers in September. We'll do a catch up mailing of all the subscribers that renewed and came in new since January. Our thinking being that if you subscribe between Jan-Aug your not going to want last year's subscription package.

Everyone that renews their subscription also gets this year's package, so there's no point canceling and re-subscribing as one of the other posts says.

When we changed from the old system to the new one, there were some people who we missed, so sorry for that. If you haven't received your gift from last year let me know and we'll try and sort it out for you (email below).

We are waiting for stock to come in for this year's package so I think the mailing will go out at the end of September, again if you don't get your gifts by the end of October let me know.

So to summarise, if you subscribe between Sept-Dec you should get your gifts within 28 days or so. But if you subscribe between Jan-Aug you'll get the following seasons gifts in Sept/Oct. If you prefer and we have stock you can take your pick of last seasons gifts, but you will need to phone to arrange this (Tel: +44 (0)1795 414639, Email : whitelines@servicehelpline.co.uk), I can't really say fairer than that...

If you do find that you are having problems with our customer service team or have any other questions, then contact me direct: marketing@factorymedia.com.

Sorry to take up so much thread time, but I thought it was worth letting everyone know...

Chris

P.S. I think £28.50 for 7 issues, DVD covermounts, free delivery and a gift package is an absolute bargain, if you know of any better deals then let me know. If you want to get in early here's season's offer: http://bit.ly/cg0ZZT

Chris,

Sounds like you guys have listened to everyone and are looking to sort it out, so fair play to you on that one.

I'm one of the guys who didn't receive my gifts last year (still haven't) and contributed to this thread. I also canceled my sub at the end of the season (partly because it was in my wifes name and she didn't want to pay for it any more in fairness).

One of those situations where if I hadn't been promised the gifts, I wouldn't have cared as the magazine more than speaks for itself (especially at the price). Having been promised them though, you kinda feel like you're missing out on something when they don't arrive.

I have signed up again for this year again, as the mag is great and I agree for the money it's excellent value.

Hi Gaz_5

Drop me a line on the email in the thread above and I'll try and sort something out for you.

We don't have all of last years gifts, but I'll try and put something together for you.

Sorry and hope you keep on enjoying the mag.

C.

I like it - it's a good read and I'v never had an issue withe the freebies (I've been subscribing for three years)

One word of advice - the gear guide is utter utter B****HIT. The people who put it together should be ashamed - not a single piece of constructive criticism of any of the boards and makes that you can buy in the UK not covered.
"This one is great" "This one is sick" "Our reviewer was really impressed with ........"
Utter cobblers. No where does it say what you need to know e.g. all the house brand Decathlon boards are based on old designs, the Niedecker factory makes boards for loads of other people, the Burton Clash is getting worse in terms of tech........
It makes you wonder when and how the gear is reviewed and who buys the beer....

Just to say again I do like the mag and will continue to subscribe - but the gear guide is only useful if the Andrex runs out

I subscribed for the first time a few weeks ago, so will wait and see if I get any gifts or not. My brother in law has been a subscriber for years and loves the mag/dvd's, but last year had some trouble with the goodies and had to chase them a few times, he was even told the gifts were on a 'first come first serve' basis, even though he'd been a continuing subscriber for years.

Hopefully they have sorted themselves out and i'm pretty confident after Chris' post above that we'll get our goods. At least they appear to be contactable, a few times in the past i've tried contacting online sellers and they don't appear to exist in any physical form!
