Depends on a few things. Where you want to use it, price range etc.

A lot of people are looking at the Xacti models.

I got a Kodak Zi8 for my B-day, and it is the sh*t. Small, light, films in 1080p, 720p, VGA. Powers up in a couple seconds, only a few controls to worry about - I can't say enough about it. Price is totally reasonable as well, I think they run about $180? Look at the reviews vs the Flip, it's way better.

Sorry to hijack but I have the same question

The kodak mentioned seems like a good fit:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002J9I3HM/300004310-21/?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

does anyone have any other suggestions worth looking at?

Budget around £150
Going to be used for just larking about on holiday (Tremblant, Canada)
Obviously want it to work well on the white stuff
Good picture quality, battery life and storage space I guess are my main requirements

i've just sent back a Contour1080p because of very poor focus. perhaps just a bad batch, but thought i'd mention it.

nice bit of kit in the way it's put together, but video performance let my one down. have swapped for a Go Pro "helmet hero" (who thinks these names up?), as the video i'd seen looks a LOT better.

re the o.p. if you have a sony centre near you, have a look at the Sony HDRCX105. Ends up about £240 after the cashback voucher. great money for a HD camcorder.

Neither the ZI8 and Flip have zoom though do they? I'm looking at the Xacti WH1 at around £200.

After spending the past few hrs researching have just ordered the kodak zi8 as recommended here. There's a few similar alternatives but without spending £200+ for something that's gonna be hurled around in my pocket you can't go wrong with the quality of the kodak.

Will be here in a week and I'll post some bids of me and the gf trying to board in Canada.

Thanks for the suggestions

I keep looking at the Sanyo models, but I am torn. Do I settle for the CA9 and have the waterproofing to be reasured when boarding? Or do I get one of the newer models?

I like the idea of pistol grip but I really dont know which to plum for.

Also will they keep up with on board shooting in the snow?

Thanks

The reviews say the CA9 isn't very good whilst moving and that the picture is jerky. I've gone for the standard style Xacti WH1 that's a similar price but much better optical zoom, x30 compared to x5.

But if the CA9 "reassures" you whilst your boarding that's a brilliant feature. I mean having it in your pocket saying go on hit it or that's just a flesh wound would be excellent for your confidence.
