You're right, it will come
As you might have guessed from the rather in-your-face link in my signature, I'm kinda interested in how and when people learn to ride switch...
Do you practice when you're away in the mountains, or at home in one of the fridges?
Cheers, Gav |

I was spending a bit of time when I went to the dry slope, but kinda slacked of lately which is no good. Should really be more disciplined |

I'm still not as good I whish I was in switch but I get by OK.
I tend to do flatland 180's off the tail into switch, try a few turns and then if I feel a little shakey then 180 back into regular.
I also kind of do the ribbon turn thing but rather than going back up the hill I lean over the nose of the board into a nosepress but sideways, a bit like a butter then rotate the board round into switch (if that makes sense) |

There's no right way to learn switch - sounds like you're getting on sweet with the 180s!
It was a good while ago now - I was away during November on a glacier in Les Diablerets, Switzerland. It was my first ever taste of freestyle, wasn't really ollie'ing before I went. On the 4th day my ass was killing from all of the repeated falls trying 180s, so seems as though there was only one run to play with, I decided to learn switch. I just the majority of a full day just practicing - it was a fairly long run.
And that did the trick for me... since then I've been able to tackle runs I can ride regular in switch, just not as well. And over a good number of holidays away, I can just about ride switch as well as I can regular...
GL with it mate! |

Riding Switch for me.
I can't seem to turn at all on the front when I'm riding swicth. I'm fine on the backside turn...but as I can't turn front side i end up going all the way around and then going regular again |

Yeh I can turn on my heel edge in switch fine, but I cant turn on my toe edge, so when i try to come out of a heel turn I can'r, and end up going round and back to regular |

Oh, so you've successfully done a heel edge turn, you're then traversing on your heel edge, but you can't do the toe turn?
How much of a traverse on your heel are you doing? You could try stopping on your traverse, to kill your speed, and then seek the fall line, and get into your toe turn.
Then gradually reduce the side-slip on the traverse, so that it's gone altogether.... |

A really simple toe edge turn trick...
aim the board down the fall line where you can either turn onto your heels or your toes you are going for the toeside turn so get onto the toe edge then look up the slope. that should bring you round in quite a pronounced turn.
OK its a pretty old technique but its probably one of the easier ones to communicate on an internet forum |

I spent 3 hours on the dry slope trying switch last friday, and it did me wonders, managed to link turns and get from top to bottom riding switch with no falls, my technique is terrible and i'm doing every bad habbit, but i know as i progress i'll soon iron them out.
One bit of advice, which may not apply to everyone, but really worked for me, was riding on the button lift in switch. i had both feet strapped in so my (now trailing leg) could help get me back on the track if i was going off, but this really helped. It forced me to put weight on my new front foot, and made me steer the board up the lift with that foot, by the time i got to the top i had horrible cramp in it, and felt as if it was going to fall off, but this was great as it seemed as though it had woken that foot up and used some new muscles in it, which went on to really help going down the slope.
Also practiced just spinning round most of the way down, facing up the slope, turning clockwise onto heel, then continuing round again back onto toe, and repeat. Had to stop for a few mins as i got pretty dizzy and felt slightly ill |

Nice work with the switch practice, and nice work riding the pully switch too!
Ever thought about getting on a chair "switch"? A couple of times I've tried riding switch all morning, doing everything switch, but then always bottled it on the chair lift - it just seemed like it would be really hard to get off |

yeah i dunno about the chairlifts, getting off those and going down that nasty ramp at the end is pretty daunting, and the thought of people coming along behind you a few seconds later doesn't help ;-) |
