There's not enough sarcasm in my opinion. You can't build a community on facts, straight talking and advice. Humour has a huge part to play.

I agree sarcasm is fun , see the OTHER site it has alot more ..... but some say its more friendly because of it too

Even Grill reappeared on it the other day after a long absence

Sarcasm is usually taken the wrong way, particulalrly Wildebeest's.

Not sure if this has been suggested before but...

What about 'sticky' posts in the forum? I forever see the same questions asked over and over and to get around this on other forums they have common/popular topics stuck at the top within each forum section.

Stickies in each section for FAQ, good call.

Avatar > Sig every time. Not so bad on here but on some forums you get a two word post then a list of every bit of kit ever owned and a life history.

Is it only me for who every thread i post in disappears from the 'active threads' box on the left?

Oh and on another forum i frequent when you hover the cursor over the thread title you get a box with the first 50 characters of the1st post, very handy.

x2 on the avatar images and stickie threads.

- 'How to wax a board FAQ'
- 'How to choose which size board FAQ'
- Where can I demo boards (shops / domes / slopes)
- terminology thread - explaining rocker, camber, baseplates, mounting discs, etc.. etc..
- Google Maps style user-map, so we can see who is closest for meet-ups, sharing petrol to go to domes and all that (allowing ppl to opt out if they are paranoid)

Two things that would assist the GB experience for moi

1) better search on resort reviews, perhaps im doing it wrong but Im only able to get to a particular reseort by scrolling through twenty odd pages of resorts. Keep the list of resorts though as I do think that is interesting.

2) My private messages seem to get randomly purged, Snowboarding is a seasonal thing and I sometimes want to refer back to an old message/person from seasons past and it's gone.
.
Snowboarding ruined my life

There already are some guides to buying, etc on the site under 'Guides' http://www.goneboarding.co.uk/gear-guides/default.aspx

Fact of the matter is, not many people both to look or search for threads similar to theirs, they like to ask their own question, hence the regurgitation of information.

Avatars have been on the site before but were removed around 5-6 years ago I think (can't find evidence on http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.goneboarding.co.uk ).

I agree that not many people search for threads and often it is because people like to 'ask their own question'. I do believe though that sticky threads would definitely reduce the number of repeat threads that do appear.

For example, a sticky thread at the top of the Beginners section in the forum with links to the Guides section would be a good start. Maybe a link to the Reviews section in a sticky at the top of the Hardgoods forum might help too.

This works on other forums, I think it could work here too.

search facility defo needs to be better. A search that bring back a 100+ page thread is of little use. Search needs to narrow down to page and if possible highlight search words.

Logged in for first time in years today and noticed I still can't press return after entering in my password : the focus is still on the email input

Possible retailers forum section where retailers can display remaining stock of particular products daily/weekly etc and give updates without plugging the main forum pages. This way GB members can get real time updates on shop stock levels and latest news whilst not feeling they are being hassled in the main forum
