I used to be heavily into skateboarding, but started winding that down about 3 years ago after a few shoulder dislocations.
These days i divide my money/time between snowboarding and my MX5...bit of a car nerd. |

What I'd like to take up again regularly given time Chen Taiji Tennis

What I'd like to have a try in the future Windsurfing Surfing Downhill MTB BMX (probably would be crap at this) |

Taichi/taiji is the 'soft' Chinese Martial Arts now popular for its gentle and health promoting qualities. it is characterised by slow graceful movements. Most people do taichi for health now e.g the elderly in the park in China. Chen Taiji is the oldest style of Taichi which has given rise to all the other styles of taiji. It probably itself came from Shaolin Kungfu and some other styles (?Wudang).
Anyway, Chen Taiji is different from the other Taiji spawned from it as it still retains some of the fast and strong aspects of martial arts. It is still a full 'fighting' style. It has taught me a lot of about balance and coordination. Doing movements slowly (e.g. on the one leg) is not that easy and has benefits. The Chen Taiji Horse Stance leg position is very similar to the stacked position required on a snowboard (to be fair many sports share this similar stable base position).

I'll put links to youtube videos later, can't do it from work! |

I race Motocross, the motocross season is roughly the opposite of the snowboard season so its perfect!
Its a lot of time, effort, risk and money. But its worth it!
When you clear that 90ft jump or rail a corner perfectly, Its just like the feeling I get when I snowboard down a mountain, the feeling that you are living. |
