Pro, you get to snowboard for free
Con, you get paid f all, its a vocation not a career.

And snowboard instructor is too vague a term to make realistic comments about, depends what level you mean. Part time dome beginers instructor to mountain guide the pros and cons will be completely different

Pro
Free season pass
Spending winter in the mountains
Meeting people

Con
Working on a powder day
Working while mates are riding
Working while hungover
Always have to be in a good mood
Not being able to ride where and when you like
People not doing what they are told
Finding out that being an instructor is not what you though it would be
Taking the instructor course to find out you used it for one season and end up in an office job no where near a mountain.

Pro:
Free pass
Reciprocals with other local hills
Free ongoing training
Having a locker on-hill
Clocking up mileage on snow
Getting paid to ride
Tips (take a kids lesson in N.America and wear them out.... parents will pay big $ for a free night!!)
Meeting people from all over
Satisfaction at getting a newbie hooked on the sport
Double satisfaction and extra cash when newbie requests you for next lesson
Mountain lifestyle
Insider knowledge (get to know the patrollers!!!)
Being a valued member of staff at a smaller resort
Working on bluebird days

Con:
General pay levels (compared to what is being charged for lessons)
Cost of certification (compared to the financial gain you will get from teaching)
Devaluation of certifications (sooo many people now have level 1)
Not getting paid when there are no lessons to be had
Snow school scheduling systems often suck for lower grade instructors (tell everyone to ask for you when they come back!!)
Meeting the "I know better than you" type people
Being a "human resource" at a bigger resort
Working on -40 days (parents in lodge 'cos it's cold, you and kid outside getting frostbite!)
Having a kid wet themself at the top of the hill when it is -40!

cons:
working powder days
working while your mates are all in the park progressing
lack of riding for yourself (1 day a week to progress yourself)
annoying ass clients
fat lazy clients (screwed back from lifting said clients)
clients who think theyre freestylers in a day
having the toes in your boots f*cked while supporting people while your explain things
low pay compared to cost of qualification
retards who cant ride getting a level 1 in your qualification degrading it
having to work hungover
having to work on whiteout ball freezing days
having to be happy ALL THE TIME

pros:
always being on the mountain everyday (mostly a pro)
practising your by now silky flatland/butter tricks on the baby slope
checking out the hot female instructors on the baby slope (there always is)
attempting to chat up said instructors (and mostly failing)
the odd cash tip in europe (although i hear in america its more common)
the godsend of a high level/freestyle lesson
teaching those people who pick stuff up straight away
the joy of finally someone getting it right after a ball ache of a day trying to get them to understand
cheaper/free lift pass
seasonaire drinks rates in bars
knowing everyone in resort
