start saving now, food and drink are bloody extortionate. Oh and buy some chinos and a polo shirt and throw a sweater over your shoulder if you want to fit in with the Brits and buy a fur hat and some Gucci shades if you want to fit in with all the Russians.

no its good fun with some good bars and the mountains amazing ive spend months over that way over the year. Its just a shame its full of posh kids and Russians. There are more Gucci and Prada shops in Val than ski shops.

By choice its better to stay in Tignes instead of Val, same ski area but much more chilled and cool place to sleep and drink.

Whats the deal with all the Russians with this place ??

Dude,
Scrap the worries about Hooray Henrys and Russian Oligarchs, Val is an AWESOME place to ride. It's huge, steep and a little jump to the left and you're off the cable car in Tignes.

Go, you will not regret it.

i said it was an awesome place to ride...its just also a bit of a crap place to stay hence why staying in Tignes is a better option.

IMHO Val is the best place in France. With a decent dump of snow any time through the week, you will have a superb time. The off-piste is awesome, some brilliant runs and chuck Tignes into the mix and you will be laughing.

You can get some good deals on the apres-ski beers - you can easily find beers for 3 euros a pint upto 7.30ish. Then back to the chale to cane the free stuff.

I wouldnt knock Val of just yet. One of my fav resorts by far. The off piste is brilliant easily accessible and there is so much of it you can still find untracked a few days after a dump (go to le fornet region). Its not cheap but there are bars that have happy hours at different time as you can drink for cheap until about 10 or eleven. Later on, just try the old i'm a seasonaire and you most likely get a discount, always worked for me. On thing val has over tignes is more treelined riding though, big plus if there is a white out.Town is also a lot nicer with great bus service.
