Just seen that I have 'Ranked Posts: 560' but when I go into my profile and see if anyone has commented on any threads I've posted on it says 626.
I guess its something to do with me having posts deleted from time to time......yeah I know, me of all people |

Does that count posts you've made in the off-topic forum? Because I know they're not added to your public post count. Maybe that accounts for it. |

QUOTE (lez_s - 03/11/2009 @ 16:19) Whats an off-topic forum? Sorry, should have clarified. The Free For All section of the site. Posts there are 'unranked' but may still be counted in the figure you mentioned above. |

Thats a bit rubbish if you post most of the time in there and the odd time in a on-topic forum. That would make you look like you never post anything on the site.
Anyway, I dont think I've ever posted in there. |

Anyway, I dont think I've ever posted in there. I think it's to stop people who don't really contribute anything from accruing a post count. Because post whores could have a field day in there, talking all the sh*te of the day that's got nothing to do with snowboarding just to rack up their posts.
I dunno why that's important, but I'm sure there's a reason. |

I believe the reason they did that was so that we could all have a laugh in the free for all forum without the mods caring about off topic content. It does make sense if you think about it because as someone already said, a gaper could post lots of crap in the free for all forum and then post crap in the normal forum and if a newbie saw that the gaper had a high post count would think he knew what he was talking about.
Essentially it came about when the mods were going crazy so it was suggested to relieve them from having to mod all the crap posts in free for all. They will still mod posts that go against T&C's but not if they go off topic
Not sure about deleted posts and whether they count towards your total count to be honest |

If someone with a high post count said a load of crap I'm sure some people would let them know.
Anyway, doesn't look like a bug. |

A lot of people on here with high post counts that don't know sh*t.
Like me for instance.
Makes me laugh when I see people who were complete newbies this time last year offering advice to the new newbies after one or two weeks on snow. I fairly certain I've seen people who've never even been on a mountain offering advice on board length and recommending boards. I'm sure it's all meant with the best intentions, but is kinda funny. |

Posts deleted are just that, deleted. They do not count on your total number of posts. If say you have 570 ranked posts, but 690 total posts it means you have posted 120 times in the 'Free for All' section. Several people at the time were just trying to get to the top of the posters list by posting drivel. The top posters 'leader board' was removed as a result of that fact.
The 'Free for All' part of the website was created to allow people to discuss non snowboarding topics that were free from moderation unless they contravened the T&C's. It has nothing to do with moderators going supression crazy. |

I've been selling boards to people before and they've said 'nah, I've read on message boards that that's not right for me / no good / only for freestyle / etc'.
There's something in the human condition that treats the written word as gospel. I remember blagging it into clubs as a kid with my mate's older brothers driving license. No photo, but because it's written down, it must be true. |
