So I am a total noobie. I have been boarding once and loved it and at the weekend I was given a board...result.

So here is the info I think might be useful. I am 5'9 about 14 stone and size 8.5.

Its a Salomon Driver 155 board with Burton Custom SI bindings but no boots.

Am I right in thinking getting boots for these step in bindings will be difficult...what are my options?

virtually impossible unless you find some on ebay, they stopped making them about 5 years ago

Best shout then to chuck some new (2nd hand) bindings on and get a pair of boots?

I take it the gear is kinda old then...

well i think they still make a version of that board but those bindings haven't been used for years so id guess the board would be from the same time, no way of telling for sure without pictures though.

From what I know the board hasnt been used a huge amount it was a friends ex husbands and he never picked it up when they split...I will fire some pics up.

Appreciate the help...from what I have read I was thinking about a cheap set of strap bindings and a normal pair of boots. Is it worth spending the money puting new kit on the board if its 5+ years old?

As for bindings a set of strap bindings will be the way to go but easily found. Either keep an eye out on here and have a scoure on ebay and you should be able to pick up some 2nd hand for a good price with little trouble. There will no issue with putting on bindings that are newer onto that board at all.

As for boots i would urge you to buy those new from a store to make sure you get the perfect fit as that will make possibly the biggest difference to your riding experience especially when starting out. Boots that dont fit you exactly can really be hell believe me.

That's great to know it's worth buying boots new, I have been looking at bindings on here and eBay but what sort of money is it worth spending given the board?

I am working on the basis if it doesn't work out then I should cover my outlay on boots an bindings flogging the whole setup.

I take it there is info on here about setting the board up, I am fine with the mechanics of outing bindings on but spacjngs etc? Should I look to get the board serviced/checked out before I use it?

What sort of money would you recommend I spend on the bindings and boots?

Boots are never cheap. probably bettween £150-£200 realistically speaking. But they last a few years depending on the amount of useyou give them so i consider them an investment.

Bindings it depends on what is available prices can really vary i think you could pick up something decent 2nd hand for about £50 to £80 with out too much bother. But again bindings are interchangable between boards and will last so you could keep them sometime even if you replace the board.

Went out and had a look at boots and tried some on vans encore boots the 2010 model and they fitted the best. They were on sale for £115, a good price? Their bindings were coming in at £100+ so I think I'll check out online for them.

Any advice or feedback on the boots would be awesome.

with boots its completely personal and what fits best for you. This time of year not much is left in stock so if you've found a pair that are comfy then go for it....

I was looking in eBay and I came across these ones Item number: 250660091995

Would these be suitable or would I be better to look at more mainstream brands but slightly older? Thoughts are if I get those vans boots for £115 then I can do the whole things for less than £200 and have some kit to take to a new board if I did that at somepoint in the future.

Meant to ask is there any value in the old burton custom SI step in bindings?

I have a pair of RULER SI, they are well old but still functional. I have modified them a bit, they have new straps and ratchets, (replaced ratchets with metal ones when origonal plastics broke). They would fit your bindings, and are a uk 9 (im an 8 in normal shoes too).
