Always wear a helmet ever since the first trip away when I was learning. Went down a little steep slope in front of the chalet that was no more then 5 feet high, caught my heel edge and got the customary whip and blow to the back of my head. Scared me a little to think so much pain and affect can come from what should have been a very innocuous fall. Didn't want to think if it happens at great speed. Still can't get my goggle strap under my lid comfortably though!!!! |

QUOTE (tombolton82 - 28/01/2012 @ 14:16) Why don't you put your strap around the outside? Vouch. Nearly every helmet accommodates goggle straps on outside and had a clip at the back to hold them on. |

Some of us are blessed with massive heads though. Thanks for the obvious put it around the outside, but that can be really uncomfortable and tight on the face. The last goggles I got to fit around my helmet were smith, and i was told to put a motorcross strap on them. That worked fine as the frames were the same, I was wearing sunglasses rather then goggles the last time I went away. And for the record the head is 63cm so its not like I have the head of a cow or anything! |

glad the video had a happy ending, it shows that we indeed are fragile creatures and it doesnt take that much to cause us serious damage.
i have worn a lid for about 9 years after slamming onto ice/hardpack in spain and it finished me off for the day!
used to feel like a tool at first but wouldnt be with out one now.
stickers sound cool! |

Watched it through the Whitelines site the other day. Really heavy stuff towards the beginning. But a great story and a clear message. Much respect for Danny. |

Hit my head softly on my first lesson and felt it for about 3 hours, never again! |

There is never a situation when on snow not to be wearing a helmet. Your hitting speeds of 30/40mph.
The first time you catch an edge and hit your head on ice you'll know about it and wear a helmet from then on.
Helmets are cool anyway - I got some skull-candy subwoofers built into mine. |

I have to admit that when i first started boarding i didnt wear a helmet, but that was 15 years ago and nobody but ski racers wore helmets then. But since my trip to Livigno in 08 i have had a helmet, i had to buy one to use the boardpark as it was an enforced rule there and im glad because while there i had my first go on a halfpipe and came it out badly and slammed hard and hit my head pretty badly,i was slightly dazed but if i hadnt been wearing a helmet i would have no shaddow of a doubt cracked my skull because it was sheer ice on the halfpipe sides. So since then i always wore my hemet when in the boardparks etc, but still didnt wear it all the time, but over the years i have become accustomed to wearing it more often because i sometimes fancy a wee impromptue visit in to the park when out on a days riding,so it clearly pays to already have it with me. But also add in the fact that my helmet has built in speakers, and listening to choons while riding is ACE , i like the fact that having the speakers in the earpads means that it doesnt block out all the other sounds around you, unlike what wearing earphones would be like, so you still get a good idea of whats going on around you. And nowadays its actually cool to wear a helemet anyhow, well i think so anyway because as some have already mentioned you can sticker that mofo up and add even more steeze to your outfit . When away on my most recent hol to Mayrhofen i reckon the count for people wearing helmets (skiers too) vs people not was around 90% with helmets. But even if the percentage was less (like say in scotland on the hills) it would still be cool to wear a helmet because you are leading by example. But finally wearing a helmet is 2nd nature to me because my main love is DH biking and if i wasnt wearing a helmet doing that not only would i be very stupid but i would feel naked .
So im all for the lids!!! |
