  #1  thinking of a reverse camber board  Posted 11/03/2010 @ 21:19
guys, I've been doing abit of research on reverse camber boards. Im 5'7'' 155lbs size UK8 boot. Im an intermediate rider but want to improve, i ride all mountain (piste, pow, back country) i want to get into the park more and improve.
I 've been looking at the following boards
K2 turbo dream
Never summer SLR
Lib tech (Only just started looking at these so need suggestions)
What do you all think of the boards i've had a look at, any others you think i should look at, and advice on size needed.

Cheers

I've just moved over from a Burton Custom X to a Lib Tech Skate Banana. Partly due to all the fuss about camber and partly because of all the reviews the board has got. I wont bore you with a full on review but I'd definitely advise you try before you buy, its not to everyones liking. I love the board to bits but my main gripe is that it turns TOO quickly when on groomed runs. However, thats only about 30% of what I use it for and I'm sure my style will change over the coming weeks.

With reverse camber you can go down a size due to how easily they cope with powder, I'm 6ft, 180lbs and I've got a 156 and its great, I used to ride a 160 with my old boards.

Well if you want to try more park stuff like you've said then I'd go for the 154, possibly even a 152. The Skate Banana is known for being a little choppy at high speeds but all of the reviews I've read that say that are from people riding 156 and upwards. Reverse Camber will also help you with boxes, rails etc, less likely to catch a kink.

Have you thought about Bataleon's Triple Base Tech?? Its also getting very good reviews. My mate have to order a Goliath from the US because they'd completely sold out in Europe.

Hi
The skate banana is more of a park board. Just rocker. I demo-ed it and it was fun to ride but not for steeper stuff or rough snow, more speed. The Never Summer has rocker and camber and a special sidecut for edgehold and is a great ride. I have the Infinity which is the women's SLR. Not stiff but really good in all conditions. It turns and carves easily and it really holds an edge. I've ridden it in powder and it was really fast and floaty. My husband has the NS Heritage. He also demo-ed the GNU dark side which is also rocker camber which is similar. Stick with something with rocker and camber for all mountain riding.

done abit more looking about and see what you mean with the rocker/camber boards. I like the sound of the never summer and the k2 turbo dream. Any ideas of places that stock never summer boards.

Hi mate

As well as ourselves the following shops sell Never Summer Snowboards.

Never Summer Stockists

The boards are starting to get a little thin on the ground now as they have been rather popular this year. But there are still some SLR's Premiers and a few others still going around. I dont think that there is any Evos in the whole country! They have been the most popular this year with the SLR next.

Cheers

That's interesting that they're so popular. There are not many NS boards left in the stores in Colorado. Mostly online.

I bought a neversummer SL-r after fancying something with camber/reverse camber. I echo what SB60 has said in the you can ride it on anything, it really does everything it claims to do, its stable at speed, rides pow well, holds an edge when carving and has plenty of pop too. I rode a Rome Anthem previously and wouldn't go back to a camber only board now. If there are only a few SL-r's in the country, get one quick!

If you can't I hear the K2 Slayblade is pretty awesome, this may be worth a look too.

I bought the 2010 sl-r from keith at extreme powder, and it is an amazing board i absolutely love it and as has been said it does it all!

I had the same decision turbo dream or slr, and sl-r is streets ahead!

the turbo dream is just a full rocker, great in powder and really playfull but not so great in other areas!

I really would recommend the slr its awesome and good at speed i weigh around 90kg or 200 lbs and i ride the 158 slr having previously ridden a 161, so at your weight and for park riding you could probably get either the 151 or 158 but id go shorter if your wanting a more park based board!

The SL-R does it all and does it all well
The EVO-R is more a park board and a bit flexier

the slr is the right choice to make, speak to keith at extreme powder see his reply in this thread for contact details, he will sort you out, i bought both my boards through him and couldn't recommend him more, always gives you good advice and doesn't just try to force you into buying a board thats not for you!

I'm going away to Norway end of the month and can tell you more about the slr then after some more ride time?
