#1 Super Glue is my friend Posted 12/08/2010 @ 10:37 |

So I bought a 3rd hand 2007 snowboard (had a few nasty scratches anyway) from ebay about 8 months ago for use on dry slope at chatham, only cost £50 but it's been pretty damn sweet for what I bought it for,
Then all of a sudden I noticed this...
Pretty much down all my edges near my feet, simply worn from months of use on the dryslope as predicted.
So I thought i'd try botch it up a bit to slow down (not prevent) the eventual deterioration and death of the board. I had head about p-tex a fair bit, and looked into it, but I was advised from a friend (whos pretty experienced) that the p-tex would just fall out in 1 go, and he recommended super glue. So I thought i'd give it a go, as the tubes only cost about £2.50 and not got much to lose.
Anyway, 4 tubes later, and after many sessions over the past week of applying a little more glue (and getting rather high off it, when you use an entire tube in 1 go its pretty damn trippy), I have this result.
The glue is the really runny thin liquid stuff, which dries a hard dense plastic, and i've tried picking it off myself and it seems pretty well stuck.
However, i'll be going to the slope on Friday to test it out, and if it all falls out and i'm back to square 1 then I shant be too upset, but if it slows down the deterioration of the board and lets me use it on dryslope for a few more months then i'll be a happy chappy!
Story over! |

if it does fall out, then try epoxy as it has a bit more give in it so will bend with the board instead of cracking (which is what i suspect the super glue will do the first time you flex the board).
Good ingenuity though |

Yeah well thats the advantage of it being a trash board, if the glue doesnt work I can just try again with something else, i have nothing to lose!
I shall keep the above suggestions in mind, and also post back here after I go out on the plastic tonight (hopefully).
cheers guys |

On a side note, I found out recently whilst doing some complicated fancy dress production that nail varnish remover is quite good at getting superglue off your fingers, so if in the process you stick your fingers together, try that! |

QUOTE (em - 13/08/2010 @ 10:01) On a side note, I found out recently whilst doing some complicated fancy dress production that nail varnish remover is quite good at getting superglue off your fingers, so if in the process you stick your fingers together, try that! it is probably much cheaper than the 'super glue remover' you always see on the shelves with all the glue too.
though to me theres nothing more satisfying than picking/peeling it off your fingers, maybe it's just me |

I wonder how many people have got themselves superglued to a superglue remover container |

I've been all over the world, Ibiza, Magaluf, Blackpool etc and Tamworth was by far the best for snowsports!! It's intense man!!! You're totally gripped when you're at the top and looking down...

lol...
You will all be surprised/glad to hear, that after my session on the dry stuff last Friday, all glue remains intact and still on the board!
The slope was pretty wet and it was raining part of the evening, so there would be a lot less friction/heat generated, but it survived the wet so that's a good thing! |
