QUOTE (*snowangel - 29/09/2009 @ 18:23) You will need FS skills to gain higher qualifications though as certain elements of the course actually focus more into FS. That is true with CASI anyway. You need some freestyle skills for BASI 2, but they're not exactly 540's and pretzels. From what I gather you need to be able to demonstrate basic grabs, basic box/rail skills, flatland tricks and 180's. |

What I meant when starting this subject was:
If you are an instructor already, What subjects would you like to know more about?
I'm starting up a website about this subject. I'd like to know what to write about that people would be interested to read.
Examples: -Freestyle instructing -Teaching kids -Teaching Adults -How to find work etc etc
Any replies are extremely welcome |

Everyone bar one person on this thread has an instructor qualification. Not sure what information current instructors really require apart from maybe updates on teaching techniques or what future courses require. |

Well currently were gonna have:
- information about how to become an instructor - How to find a job all over the world, get visa's etc - a review system for resorts and what they are like to work for - Case studies written by instructors, how they got certified, where they worked etc - Review system for instructors courses - Articles about teaching techniques - A question and answer section - A newsletter
I'm hoping to include video progressions at some point if the site takes off.
Like good progressions for teaching and also progressions for freestyle.
The idea behind the site is to provide a place for instructors to share ideas and provide loads of free information.
Another thing that it will include eventually is a recruitment section with employment opportunities all over the world.
If anyone has any suggestions about what might be useful i'd really appreciate the input. The site is going to go live in the next month or so. |

I know a few BASI 2 people who have never hit a box let alone a rail...
The next level after BASI2 is a minimum of a 360 I think but I can't be bothered to look it up.
I think a key part isn't the demo'ing and riding... that's all easy... it's controlling a class on the mountain. Reading the camber of a hill and trying to work out where all of your students will inevitably end up...
That and some people have difficulty grasping the concepts of the more advanced teaching styles... |

I'd like to know about conversion courses between the different associations.
I've been told that it's a simple matter of filling out some paperwork to use your CASI to get AASI, but is this still true? If not, what do I need to do? Who do I contact at AASI? How much does it cost?
I've also been chatting with Wildebeest about his conversion course. There was an AASI guy converting to BASI on there. What dates are these courses? Where are they run? How much do they cost?
How about the NZ quals?
A one stop reference would be great. |

The BASI courses can be found on the BASI website. The conversion/refresher course info can be found here. The ASSI AND ASBI refer to the Snowsports Scotland/England skiing and snowboarding qualifications. |

Thanks Fatbob, but I'm still not sure if I need to do the full 5 day course to gain BASI 1 or if I can do the conversion course. Wouldn't it be nice to have a page with all the info on instead of having to search each individual website. |

I don't think that you need to convert your CASI to AASI. IF you want to get equivilancy, resorts in America will recognise your CASI cert as if it is AASI. You can go to America, they recognise your CASI and then you can take the next level AASI exam. Sometimes you may need to apply to AASI with a letter stating your experience.
I'm a BASI 2 which they recognise as AASI 2. They pay me the same too. I was going to do my AASI 3. They told me I had to have worked 2 seasons as an instructor and write a letter stating my experience.
They will recognise your cert as corresonding to the AASI level and pay you that way. |
