So ive been wanting to go and work a season since I was a wee child, I finally finished university and have been applying for positions by the bucket load since may..... however since I have no bar experience or waiting experience it seems im unemployable. I have applyed for more jobs than my maths skills can comprehend, yet to no avail, does anyone have any tips to increase my chances? Or does anyone know a company/bar/anywhere that are willing to take on people like me? Has anyone else had this problem? I JUST WANT TO BE LOVED

thanks a bunch

Look mate, have you ever poured a beer into a glass? What about open a bottle of Champagne? Ever put food on a table for someone? Then you have 'service Industry experience', or 'Alcohol dispensing' experience! Sometimes, you just need to be creative in your applications. Don't tell a potential employer what you can't do, tell them what you can do and why that is applicable. i.e. I can juggle monkeys while riding a unicycle - this makes me excellent for after dinner entertainment, I provide my own monkeys who are polite and courteous and able to interact with small children. We are all house trained.

Sell yourself buddy - in the non prostitution sense!!!

Failing that the upturn in business generated by the unicycling monkey juggling, you should get yourself out to resort anyway. Loads of people bin seasons after a month or so, especially around Christmas through homesickness, running out of money, family emergency, or just realising that they are spoilt little brats who cannot live without mummy/daddy's credit card!!! Weak!

Therefore always jobs going around Christmas time - and that's a busy time for bussinesses!

Why don't you just apply to a TO as a night porter/kp/chalet assistant/etc? If you've always wanted to do a season the job shouldn't matter.

Haha, well I suppose we don't need people with bar or serving experience. If he can speak at least 3 languages and operate an SBi and race tune skis then I'll take him.

A couple of things you can make sure you don't do to give yourself the best chance.

If you are emailing independent operators check who you are getting in touch with. Nothing winds me up more than getting an email addressed

"Dear Sir/Madam

I have been recommended your company by a friend"

Doing a bit of research more than finding an email address will give you who runs the company, a feel for the company and put you on the front foot.

Check you spelling on your CV and include a covering letter. If your service industry experience is minimal then focus on your strengths and personality. It will be more valuable info than a bog standard CV for any prospective employer.

If you really struggle, work your ass off between now and December, get some money together and spend Christmas in a resort. By early January quite a few people have decided that seasonairing is not for them and go home leaving plenty of positions to fill. If nothing else you'll have an awesome Christmas in the mountains!

Good luck

Andy

You could go on a chalet cooks course.
Not sure if you want to cook but it does make you very employable by tour ops.
Or you could apply for a kp or chalet assistant position, which generally don't need previous experience, although for chalet assistant, you may need to display a small amount of obsesive cleaning disorder to definitely land that job
Bar jobs are definitely hard to come by in snow resorts, especially if you have no experience.
Before you take any job, check out the company by internet review - there are a few stinkers out there !

I can see where you're trying to say but don't use "la chat"

La conasse is the better choice =-P

I just put La conasse into Babelfish. Are you sure that's the best term to use?

Could be I completely misunderstand what you were trying to communicate...
EDIT: La Conasse is not a nice word
