Want some advice? Make up some experience then get some more.

1) Go to your local catering temping agency and tell them you did bar work at Uni - they won't check / care. You'll have all the experience you need in a week or so (although this is the worst time of year for function / bar work pre-Christmas)

2) Apply for plenty of jobs and lie about your experience. Tell them you helped out loads at Uni. They won't check. Worst case scenario? Tell them you were mainly a glass collector so you're not too hot at changing a barrel.

3) Once you've got 2 days bar work under your belt you should have nothing to worry about. If you have then it's probably not a line of work you should be in.

4) As others have said, mid season it's much easier to pick up work because you won't be in competition with the experienced seasonnaires. Although you're probably more likely to end up bunking down with the person that snores / farts / gets up everyone else's nose the most.

5) Don't bother lying about being a qualified nanny - they take that kinda thing pretty seriously

Ive got a few seasons behind my belt, to be honest I dont know anyone that gets a job before they go to the resort. I'm dont know too much about Europe's seasonairres but im fairly sure that you go and find a place to rent, then look for a job. I know its not the easy because ive done it myself but everyone I know has done it the same way.

Or contact the resorts, they always need lifties etc. but I still think its highly unlikely they'll employ someone until they are in resort....
but maybe im not the best person to give advice...?

Europe is a little different as the UK tour ops hire a lot of people and hire them before the season starts from the UK. If you're the sort of person that learns quickly, then just be a bit creative with your CV. Or take on a less glamourous role... A job is a job, anyone will do to get you out there... build as many connections as you can once you arrive, if you are good plenty of options will open up to you!

For everywhere else (Canada, NZ, Aus) and non-tour op local work.... then yes your advice applies: Just get out there (dont forget the visas outside Europe)!

The USA is a totally different kettle of fish... You have to have a job lined up first or you wont get a visa (except the student J-1), Direct resort contact or specific UK recruiters are the key. Limited supply of H2B visas has this option pretty much on hold right now.

Haha, well I suppose we don't need people with bar or serving experience. If he can speak at least 3 languages and operate an SBi and race tune skis then I'll take him.

I speak english and german fluently and am learning french at A level. I also just started working in a ski and snowboard shop, as a technician. Would you have any spaces in a year or so?

I can see where you're trying to say but don't use "la chat"

La conasse is the better choice =-P

No it's not.

I was browsing the net and came across this company with vacancies http://www.pisteandpeaks.com/Seasonaire%20work.html

You might have more luck with a smaller company though let me know if you land the job as I'll make a note of not booking there. I don't want to end up at a chalet with an inexperienced host now do I?

I have done 3 seasons in austria, all in st.anton. I work in a kitchen at night and its perfect. Most people there turn up early november and just start looking for jobs. Dishwasher, bar work, kitchen help, chefs etc... I know from friends its similar in other resorts in austria. I think its the best way to do it. not the easiest but the best. Dishwasher and kitchen help jobs are normally the best imo. Working in the evenings when the slopes are closed and you finish at 11ish so theres still plenty time for partying. UK chalet companies are the easy option but more often than not the hours arent so good (for riding) and the pay is sh*t. i mean £50 - £100 a week for 6 days work is a joke... Alot of jobs in the resorts ive heard of come with free accom and food, so just get yourself out there early!
