I use a lot of photos from the resorts on www.worldsnowboardguide.com along with a growing collection of our own photos. The resorts are generally happy you using their photos as long as they are only used to promote their resort directly and for no other purposes. So you cannot for example use one of these photos to create a banner ad to publicise your website.
Most US/Canadian resorts get you to agree to a basic contract before you can use the photo, whereas the european ones will just send you a cd with a load of crappy shots from the 80's. Just make sure you seek approval before you use the photos and keep an audit trail so you can prove you have permission.
Usually you have restrictions including like not being able to crop the photo or manipluate it beyond colour correction, and there are also restrictions on how long you can use that photo for. You do need to take it all quite seriously with fines and hassle you get if you don't adhere to the resorts t&cs are severe. Often the resorts don't own the image themselves, the copyright is still held by the photographer and the resorts have a restrictred license from them, and limited re-licensing.
Snow24.com have a huge image database from resorts, so that could be a starting point if you're still looking for images, or feel free to PM me if you need more. |

yes - decided to go get some from iStockphoto - can't afford it really but, after considering the time and faff of trying to make a deal with someone, can't afford not to...
we'll use the ones provided by ski resorts on the resort-info pages... and the ones we buy from iStockphoto on the more general pages
its starting to take shape, if you fancy a look at www.SNO.travel
lots of the links don't work yet as we're sorting out the design first... and the ski holidays search currently shows you every departure for every airport, so it looks like there are 20 holidays per day for each accommodation... but we're getting there ... got to sort out the annoying menu pop-up today!
if anyone has a minute to give feedback I'd be really grateful be gentle (we're building this ourselves with bits of string and sticky tape) but please be honest
free ski holidays for the best opinions (not) |

Yeah it's only their income we're talking about. I mean anyone can take a picture… which is why all of the Photo Specials are full of snaps of 'my mate in the funpark' shots. Oh sorry, they're not. What they are is full of stunning life affirming shots, the result of getting up before dawn, hiking up the mountain cos the liftees are still in bed, waiting for the sun to be in just the right place, getting a brilliant rider to pull the coolest move, then… oh yeah, point>cleek…
I always used a lab to process my shots anyway. |

Mostly, I was just kidding. I understand that it's not simple and takes a good eye, dedication and a slice of luck to get the goods.
There is a bit of me tho which thinks that the cult of the photographer is a little self agrandising (is that even a word or is it a star wars quote ) Not meaning to harsh on anyone's cool like. |
