  #1  Ride DH and DH 2.2 - Help!  Posted 04/03/2010 @ 11:33
Revision #1 (Last edited: 04/03/2010 @ 23:01)
I'm looking for a bit of board advice folks.

I currently have a 162 Hatchet, which I love, but I've had it for 3 years now and would quit elike to add another board to my arsenal.

I'm 6.2", 13 Stone 12 and have UK boot size 10.

First off, now I'm thinking of doing more freestyle based stuff (both in the park but more often looking for natural hits on or off piste) I'm considering going a bit smaller. Reckon with my weight I could do 159 or 157.

I've been looking at the DH pretty much all season thinking it would be a good addition, but managed to hold out till the sales started. I have the possibility of getting a 157 DH 2.2 or a 155/159 DH for around the £250 mark.

I quite like the thought of the 2.2, but I've never ridden a rocker board and dont have any option of trying it out (tried TSA they have none for demo at my local dome).

The DH also appeals though and being its the same profile as my current board (camber wise) I'm not overly worried that I would *hate it* where that potential exists with the rocker.

Anyone ridden the DH2? What do you think of the rocker?

Anyone ridden the DH? Happy with it?

Just looking for some general feedback on the two. Not depserate to buy a new board but given the deals I wouldn't mind picking one up.

I ride a Parkstar 159 which is similar I'd say to the DH2.
The rocker profile does make faceplanting harder imo.

I did look at the DH too but I thought I'd give a Rocker a go and I love it.

tbh, I'm heavier than you (also shorter), 159 is still a good glider.

Cheers XiXora.

So, I've spent the whole night looking over the youtube reviews and demos of both boards and I think I have settled on giving the DH2 with the rocker a try.

Only problem is, during my research I think I may have stumbled across info that says the 157 will be too short for my weight.

Ride list the weight range for the 157 regular as being 130 -180 Lbs (or a max of 82Kg). I am generally around 195 (or 88Kg) depending on the time of day.

According to the official blurb the 159 would even be pushing it with a 190lbs top line weight.

Confusing though, given the 156 wide has a 220lbs+ weight range at the top and the effective edge is only marginally different on the two boards: 156W - 1213mm and 157 1208mm.

I must confess, I probably dont know as much as I should and I realise that without riding it I'm never gonna know, but on paper (and with what I think I know) it doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone any thoughts? SHould have looked earlier but having gone through this with my current board and being able to use anything from a 153 up according to their official ranges, I never gave it too much thought till I was doing all this research tonight.

Grill, if you're about mate, your expertise would be much appreciated.

I'm not any expert either.

I believe those are guides mainly if you look at say K2 the same size maybe somewhat different and when they have 159 (biggest Parkstar afaik) noted as 220+lb's I tend to wander toward it just being a general guide.

Grill or maybe Nick could help? Grill did say my bindings would warp mind when they didn't :p Prob had a bad experience with em. Shrug :/

At your weight you'll find the 157 to lack stability, especially coming from a Hatchet in a 162. I would go for the 159 in the DH2 or Parkstar (or Jibpan if you can find/afford it). Don't worry about the rocker as they both use the same 3 stage that's super easy to ride and doesn't take any getting used to. The wides have higher weight ratings because of the increased surface area and the effective edge difference is due to a slight difference in shape.

Cheers Grill. Info very much appreciated.

I'm struggling to find the DH2 in a 159, but I'll keep looking around. If I cant find anything here in my price range I'll see if they have any in resort when I get out to Breck but I expect they will be out.

I'll have a look at the Parkstar as well.

Thanks again mate.

I have Deltas. I've pressed like a bitch on em. My mate tried them too. Seems fine.

Ride have a guarantee on em anyway so I'm not too bothered.

fair enough. I have SPi's,they've been ok so far, hopefully will stay that way, but I've had them a while, if they did break it would be a good excuse to buy some new bindings.

Just wanted to give you a big "Cheers" for the board advice Grill!

Managed to track down a 159 DH2 before we left for Breck and I've just finished day 2 of riding it.

I love my hatchet but this board is so different its not true. From the powder (of which theres been a ton the last few days) where its floaty and fun (not to mention the plutonium looking green glow coming from under the nose) to the park where I've been able to do stuff I've never been able to before.

I was a decent switch rider before but still had my problems but on the DH2 it just seems natural, making the park stuff easier.

I couldn't be happier with it. Thanks again for the advice mate.
